Yeah. I hate flying with Telsa-Nerds. After the trip I find myself scouring the Tesla website and generating a cost/benefit spreadsheet.
Such a cool car. If only we had charging stations in the parking lots.

I flew with a guy that had two. He went on and on about how great they were. I admit, I went to their website right after!

I live about 1-2 hours from BWI to the west. In Northern Virginia, so drive time completely depends on time of day. Has anyone commuted to reserve from that distance without needing a crash pad or driving to and spending the day at a closer location?

I drive 1:45 to the airport in PHX. It’s close enough for PM reserve callouts but I would have to be ready for a callout trip. I only fly PM trips which makes the traffic easy but I often get home after 1AM. I bid three day trips but have a mix of four days in there depending on bids of course. Parking averages $7/day in PHX.

I have little trouble flying my line and make 100-105 in normal times. Current Covid times mean my trips are never as advertised and I typically end up over 115 trips without picking up extra but I often get home at 0200 or later.

Short notice open time is very rare for a two hour drive, so be ready to average your normal line for pay. Picking up trips is easy but the short notice or HOT time type open time is hard to make happen....

ive had a couple of traffic incidents where I had to call scheds to let them know I would be late but make push, so usually no harm no foul.

Your QOL will highly depend on being off reserve.

Six to ten years from now an upgrade may turn the tide on your drive, but that’s for later.

Four day trips make for less driving, but eventually you will be tired of them.

I’d take a two hour drive over commuting though.

Currently no. It’s one of those things they are looking for in the next contract.
Most bases have a decent set up with an employee lot and they are generally cheap. PHX might be not awesome which is why guys find other places to park. (I’m east coast).

A year or two ago the BWI employee lot was about $40 per month.

Houston just got parking for Inflight and Flt Ops and is $75 a month. A little more if you want covered. It’s on top of the terminal garage so extremely convenient. However, while this move is good for quantifying our parking costs, it’s laughable that a company the size of SWA makes a majority of it’s frontline employees pay for parking. I am hopeful that it is negotiated into the next contract, but knowing how the VP’s in Dallas operate they will probably want us to take a 50% pay cut in exchange or something else that is utterly ridiculous. Still an awesome job and the parking shenanigans shouldn’t deter someone from applying.

Denver is $120/month covered off airport parking. Other off airport uncovered is $450/yr. Add about 20 minutes to the drive for the off airport parking. It is pathetic SWA doesn’t pay for parking. The yessies keep voting in crap contracts. Parking is one of several items our contract lags.
