Commuting Question

Hi guys, commuting out of uniform. Will I have any trouble bringing 3 carry ons with me? A suitcase with 2 attachment bags? Thanks for the ride!

I've never had an issue with it, being employed here or offline.

That being said, it's strange times with jumpseating. Weight and priority issues have been a real issue for the first time in a long time.

I've never once looked at how many bags a jumpseater has, nor has any Captain I've ever flown with. Rollaboard, flight bag, snack bag? Shove it all in the overhead so you don't have to bring anything with you up front if you have to sit on the camp stool and grab a seat.

Absolutely not. Anyone that would give a commuting crew member a hard time about that deserves a punch in the nose.

Commuting Question

I have had an ops agent threaten to check my tiny cooler bag one time because I wasn't in uniform. I politely explained that I was a commuting crew member, but he wasn't hearing it. I asked him to show me the regulation that he was talking about and he relented under frustration.

I looked it up later, and sure enough, it is a thing. When you aren't wearing a pilot uniform, you fall under TSA rules for peasants.

That was one commute out of many, so I don't think it's pervasive, but it exists. Worst case scenario, they will check one of your bags.
