The DOJ's stance is that Spirit is a viable stand alone airline, this was stated multiple times in court. Not only that, Spirit's CEO has stated multiple times that spirit is no where near bankrupcy and that they have a plan to profitability. The failing firm defense would not work.

I dont see any new mergers until a new administration comes in.. the DOJ is pretty clear about blocking mergers as we just saw with NK/JB. I just don't see them allowing the 4th largest carrier taking Spirit, but not allowing JB to. Its a major longshot..

The odds of SWA being allowed to acquire anyone under this administration are very slim. Maybe Sunny.

The JB merger block was a huge mistake by the DOJ. That being said, any merger is a net negative for this pilot group. Anybody who wants that is an idiot in my opinion. JetBlue would be terrible for this group. They have relative seniority and date of hire in spades and anybody junior in any seat stands to lose a lot. Take a look at the way the AirTran merger was handled by SWA if you have any questions. They instantly gave away most of their aircraft and then left it to the pilot groups to figure it out.

Agreed. That would be the worst news ever. Even if they were stapled, I don’t want it. There’s enough misery remaining from the last one.

Yep! The imagined situation of immediate seniority isn’t worth the toxicity. No thanks! Interview and hire forever!
No merger / acquisition / whatever you call it goes off without lasting negative effects. (Except for management, they create a divided pilot group that Gordon Gecko's ...cough...cough... Gary Smelly ....cough...cough can use to *their* advantage) I witnessed the USAir/AWA drama and it was U.G.L.Y. Nope! |
