When will First Officer training restart?

So, the latest news is that SWA has cancelled all FO training starting April 2024 thru the rest of the year, BUT they never specified when it will restart. Does anyone have any intel on when it could potentially restart?

Yeah, not trying to be rude to your sincere question but the company doesn’t owe that answer to anyone. We’ll all find out when they decide they need to hire again. There are some very large moving pieces that are not in the control of the airline that will help determine that answer later. I believe what the company did owe was a class date to those they already “hired”.

Hi...welcome to the airline industry.

Many variables including the MAX7, approval of AQP, the economy, and working out how the new CBA will affect staffing needs and pilot behavior are all a factor. None of those can be predicted.

However, when classes resume, it will likely happen quickly. If you have a CJO, keep it in your back pocket but be smart, if another airline offers you a position better than your current one, jump on it. If you looking to apply, have everything ready to go because we've seen the app open with very little notice.

I bet the company doesn't know either because too many variables! Good luck.

I heard FO training on hand-flown ILS to a go-around is restarting immediately.

That’s not asking for much. Kind of embarrassing for our profession if that’s considered a remarkable request.

I have to agree. If we've reached a point where a pilot won't turn off the autopilot even on a visual approach when it's clear, blue, and a million until 500 feet AGL, maybe we are not hand flying enough to remain proficient.

Couldn’t agree more. Bring back the sim rides!

This is exactly the trend I’m seeing with the people I fly with.

Its very consistent. So much so you can't help but wonder if someone in the training department is telling them to do it that way.
