How is the crew getting on the new free WiFi? It requires the rapid rewards number to surf and text now so I’m not sure how all these FOs get on the internet?

I suspect it's like fight club.

Personally I'm not playing "bet your job" just so I can get a text from my wife a few hours early, but I'm not my brother's keeper.

Maybe something to discuss with your SWAPA rep.

I try to not look over at the FO too much in cruise so I have plausible deniability.

do people think management is monitoring everyone who logs on and then checking if they are flying or if it's their spouses or kids number and alos making sure non of their relatives fly for sw and are currently flying and then meeting them at the plane and firing them?

Or is it the you may have an accident and they'll see that you texted your wife 31 min prior saying youll be late for dinner and then lose your job from that?

Do we still need to put tape over our cameras on the ipad?

Is the company still tracking us via our ipad and noting when we check in we are actually in the parking lot or airport road instead of actual curb and meeting us at the gate and firing us?

Jesus, the level of stuff people are worried about boggles my mind some times. Its a winder anyone has a job with all these pilots being fired everyday.

Yeah I think this is a big nothing burger. I certainly would never advocate anyone use it, but I am not checking over the other pilot's shoulder to see what they are doing during cruise. Obviously if someone is doing it at inappropriate times, that needs to be addressed on the spot. Otherwise, mind your panel and read your company material.

The Company (marketing actually) is looking at bandwidth usage. If you're a high bandwidth user guess what, it is going to get someone's attention because they track this regarding customers. If the IP address is the same on multiple flights and you're the only person common to those flights then yes, you're going to be singled out.

I know this because I have flown with someone in the past and he was called on the carpet because he got marketing's attention with the bandwidth usage and his IP usage was tracked to the only person that was on all the flights. Of course this was before we went to the new log on system and he was using his wife's A-List account.

IP address is different every leg you log in.

Apple products change the MAC address to make it impossible to track.

However if SWA requires a login with a RR number, similar to AA requiring your AAdvantage number, that can absolutely be sorted. You could use a VPN but it's trivial to sort by flight who used that login on what flight and by process of elimination, one person will be left after doing it over say a dozen flights.

Will anything come of it? Absolutely not unless there is an incident, you hit something on the ground after landing, who cares, your device will be looked at and records will be pulled. This has happened to 121 crews in the past and licenses were suspended for weeks/months because of it. Worst case you get fired like the AA F/O in JFK.

Fo the CA's who are playing dumb, just an FYI but I personally spoke to another CA whose FO posted an inflight pic on FB, took it down within 30 minutes, and the FAA still found it. FAA came after the CA, luckily nothing ended up happening but it caused a lot of heartache.
