Boarding priority question
Hi all,
I have not jump seated in a very long time. I am an OAL pilot and would like to travel on SW later in the month and was wondering if I should list as a jumpseater or purchase an ID90. If the jumpseat was already occupied, does it make a difference in priority? I do not mind purchasing an ID90 at all if it helps. Thank you. |
OAL jumpseaters are the absolute last priority no matter what. The ID90 priority is not much higher. I don't think it would help your chances much unless there happens to be a bunch of OAL jumpseaters on an almost full flight.

Sign up as a pilot. The jumpseat will be available to you. If there are SWA pilots commuting and the cabin jumpseat is available, we'll take the cabin jumpseat to get you on. One thing to keep in mind, every SWA employee can use the cabin jumpseat.

It’s a thing on Delta too and the same thing applies. I got left behind once because a pilot couldn’t be bothered to give up the uber comfortable 717 cockpit jump for the cabin. He looked right at me with his cold dead eyes and said “nope”. |

Bravo for knowing this is a thing. A lot of our non-commuters don’t even think a little bit outside the box, so don’t expect that to happen unless you are dealing with captains/Jumpseat riders that actually care. If non-company jumpseaters are trying to get on, a SWA pilot should take a seat in the back first, the cabin JS second, and then the cockpit as last resort. Sadly, that doesn’t always happen and people get left behind because someone can’t be bothered.

I've also heard coolers or food bag have priority on JS |
Keep in mind most of our aircraft have two flight deck jumpseats. On an 800/MAX8 there are two cabin jumpseats.
Be at the podium one hour prior as its first come first served. |

To be clear, you should NEVER take the jump seat when deadheading, or at the very least never for a revenue passenger. I could maaaayyyybe see someone doing it to help a non-rev get on, but only if there are no other pilots waiting for the cockpit.
”Hey I took the jumpseat but don’t worry, there’s another flight in a few hours.” Fu˘king a$$hat. |

No f’n way. We negotiated a seat in back for must ride travel…I’m taking a seat in back. |
