New SWA 717 TPA Domicile
#21
"Southwest Airlines commits to establishing an Atlanta domicile with a minimum of fifteen (15) overnighting B717 aircraft by January 1, 2015, unless otherwise mutually agreed by both parties."
So, did 'both parties' (SWAPA being one of them, and SWA the other - or was it AT ALPA and SWAPA - or was it AT ALPA and SWA?) agree to a change, or can a side letter be deemed mute if management sells the airplane out from under you?
Not looking to stir up a fuss, just wondering if a LOA or side letter or what have you is still binding in this situation.

Just wondering. Aren't all the 717s going to be at DAL by the end of 2015? Why would they advertise a base for a fleet will be gone within a year of base opening (or will it convert to B737)?

Because at the time this plan was announced (2011) the 717 was still slated to become a southwest fleet type. A bunch of AirTran pilots bid, and were awarded it. It was part of their plan to get the pilots at AirTran on the band wagon. Maybe even got some of the SWA pilots on the band wagon. Either way they reneged on the deal.

Because oil prices went up and made the 717 obsolete. Do you think Southwest should have continued flying the 717's and lost money just so a few pilots wouldn't feel slighted? Kind of losing sight of the big picture, which is that they are in it to make money. If they can make more money with the 737 then get rid of the 717's.

Without a dog in the fight, but why would Delta lease a loser like the 717?
