Default 737-800

When is SW scheduled to take delivery? Any current routes or new routes expected to see the 738? Any more talk about Hawaii?

First half of 2012 I believe. Look for PHNL and PANC as the first routes to showcase the big jet.

Supposely the 737-800 is due at Southwest during Feb 2012. It has to have ETOPS certification before heading to HNL. GK stated right after they were ordered that they would be used first at slot restricted airports like EWR. I would say if they get additional slots at LGA they will use them out of there. ETOPS manager was hired in Dec 2010 I think and internally WN is working on setting up HNL but again ETOPS has to be certified first.

These are the ones that are showing up on www.planespotters.net

I hope that SW has mercy on the passengers and try not to shove 189 seats on the jet.

Our 800s will have 175 seats with some new kind of seats that allow for extra legroom. They will be the equivalent of 33-34 inches of seat pitch from what I've been told. All the jets will have the new "sky" interior as well.

175 seats is a tight fit. Not Ryan Air tight, but still a squeeze. WestJet runs their 800s with 166 seats, which are always capped at 159 from YVR-HNL, due to headwinds and fuel requirements headed to HNL. The 175 seats will serve SWA better on the continental routes.

Did you actually just refer to a B737 as a "big jet"?

175 might not be that bad if they are using the new seats with the narrow backs that save room. DAL has 160 seats in the 800 and that is with the old style seats and first class.

That's pretty sweet! Can't wait to see a 737-800 in SW colors.
