Swa lqqking to outsource

This from the TWU 555 ( Union for RAMP, PROVO and OPS agents at SWA )

Union says Southwest wants to outsource some jobs - CBS News

The new contract they signed allows it. Anything less then 8 flights per day can be outsourced in the future.. All cities prior to contract signing will grandfathered and worked by SWA employees.

And so it begins, the long slow slide down the road to mediocrity. SW has peaked and is a mature airline. Costs go up when growth slows. One day SW will be the "old man" with all kinds of younger "whipper snappers" nipping at their heals and erroading their market share. Strained labor relations are just around the corner. BK is the final solution.

Can any airline avoid it?

Please . . . . another SWA nay-sayer. What a shock.

If I were Allegiant, I might be worried about this. My guess is that SWA is looking to go after much smaller markets where there is lots of money to be made. Allegiant fills their planes regularly, flying to smaller markets, but only on a "part-time" basis, i.e. one or two days a week.

You are correct for small stations with less than 8 flights but this is for all stations. TWU is not happy about it.

I wouldnt be either giz. The contract does limit it to 8 now though, doesnt it?

This was all announced at the UNITY DAY in MDW on June 19. Negoations are dragging along real slow. I will say this things SWA needs to more along at a better pace are slowly coming. GK said that the reservations system was not a priority I guess he has something else in mind.

The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is rapidly fadin’
And the first one now will later be last
For the times they are a-changin’

This industry is littered with examples of companies and their employees whos hubris got the better of them. Will Southwest suffer the same fate - nobody knows, but only a fool would think Southwest won't make a mistake at some point. Whether outsourcing staff, reporting a quarterly loss, or operating into LGA, BOS, and DCA, though . . . "the times they are a-changin’ - hopefully for the better, not only for Southwest, but for all of us.

Like AVL? Or Charleston, WV? Atlantic City? Nah, threw all that(and more) away. Good stuff.

Don't forget Newport News. I'm sure they'll be more, like ABE and MDT.
