SWA looking for used AC
I read this over on airliners.net :
Southwest has recently made it public that they may try to aquire used aircraft. With the purchase of800’s by Ryan Air ( Ireland) the speculation is that WN may be able to aaquire up to 75-800 from Ryan over the next -5 years. Rumor it is a 3 way deal with WN, Bowing and Ryan Air. Ryan Air is picking 800 delilvery slots that WN deferred. This is part of Ryan Air’s new A/C order. WN is rumored to be picking up 75 old NON ETOPS 800’s from Boeing Capital over the next 4 years. Something like 5 in 2013, 42 in 2014 15, in 2015 and 12 in 2016; First 35 will be to replace the 717’s and other 12 will be used for DAL growth in 4q 2014. The last 28 will replace the last 500’s and some 300’s. By 2015 WN will be on ly at 3% growth. While this is RUMOR until you see something from SWA officially. |

DAL definitely does that... and it is a good thing IMHO. I'll take 88 used 717s over 1 new A-380 any day.

Interesting. What is the replacement plan for the other 53 717s that they are giving to Delta? 5+42+15+12 = 74. Still a net decline in current fleet size when you subtract out the 717s. Where's the growth?

Now there is RUMOR over on airliners.net that RyanAir is buying new 737-800 and not waiting on 737MAX. Per the posting over on airliners.net 75 former RyanAir 737-800's could possibly be headed to SWA. With a possible deal between Boeing Capital, RyanAir and SWA for those AC. SWA deferred some 737-800s so that could be where SWA comes in this deal using those slots for RyanAir and SWA picking up some of those 737-800 cheap. RyanAir is known for not keeping any aircraft as long as SWA does.
