Southwest Issues?

Guys,

Is SWA having any 117 related issues? I purchased my nephew a round trip ticket SAN to RNO returning tonight and the flight is cancelled. The gate agent said something to the effect that SWA was having "issues" and they would not be able to accommodate him until Saturday.

WTTF? Saturday? What about tomorrow? Anyone have any insight into what might be causing this? I think the flight to SAN was cnx because of fog but wouldn't they fly into LAX or ONT and bus the passengers.

Something does not seem correct about this?

Thanks Scoop

This isn't my first rodeo/airline and I'm not trying to flame away here, but the SW operation in its current form is scary bad, as in "making money despite themselves" kind of bad.

As for your particular case, I'm not sure. Sorry.

Probably the fact MDW, BWI and the rest of the northeast is/was getting hammered by a blizzard. Crews out of place as well airplanes. Just a guess.

If a snowstorm in the NE affects your schedule in California, you're doing it wrong.

Scheduling network crashed due to impending 117. We always have been on the vanguard as it relates to IT

Thanks for the qualifier. Do you work here yet? Doubt it. It's not my first rodeo either, Tex. I'm on the line right now and, well, yes there have been issues at a central station within the network for the last 48 hours. Scary bad? Making record profits in spite of scary terrible operations? ************************************************.

Yeah Ace, I do work "there". However it doesn't take working "there" to see just how bad the ground ops side of the equation is right now. ALL AirTran and SW pilots are qualified to comment on this. AT pilots have plenty of experience getting serviced by SW ground crew. We ran a MUCH better ground operation (as did my previous airlines in comparison) and now that's gone to ***** because SW is handling AT.

Any further comments, Ace?

Of the 6 LAX non-stops 4 where cancelled.

I went to Vegas instead I was very, very, lucky. Of the 6 LAS non-stops 4 where also cancelled..

I ended up going to SNA, but was prepared to go to ONT or to drive.

MDW, LAS where crazy. Hundreds of people in lines indoors and outdoors and it was 8F at MDW.

Displaced crews jets and of course not enough customer service agents. I waited 1+45 just trying to confirm a standby listing.

I had real extreme experiences with customer service agents today. They were overwhelmed. I had two awesome, one horrible agent and one who was lackluster.

It snowed continuously the last 4 days in Chicago. That wx hit the east coast today.

I am sure the system was taxed to the breaking point, but I believe it was weather more the part 117
Just my experience today

Sorry Logger,
Whack is right. SWA ground ops is in complete disarray all so that we can reach the mythical 15% ROIC. the way things are going you and I may be wearing different uniforms in the not too distant future.

That's a big statement. Care to elaborate?
