Upgrade times
This topic came up in another airline's thread so I thought I'd post it here as well.
Data is from myseniority.com. Using a December 2015 hire reveals upgrade (achieving 50% on master seniority list) times as follows:
0% growth: March 2031= 15 years
1% growth: July 2029 = 13 years
2% growth: March 2028= 12 years
3% growth: Feb 2027 = 11 years
4% growth: Feb 2026 = 10 years
5% growth: Feb 2025 = 9 years
Using a 5 year FO (hired March 2011):
0% growth: Nov 2028= 17 years
1% growth: Aug 2027 = 16 years
2% growth: June 2026= 15 years
3% growth: April 2025 = 14 years
4% growth: April 2024 = 13 years
5% growth: June 2023 = 12 years

Here is the same data using a 57% system wide seniority which is consistently where the junior captain has been at due to F/Os bypassing upgrade. So, if you wanted to upgrade at the earliest opportunity here are your numbers.
0% growth: March 2031= 13.5 years
1% growth: July 2029 = 12.1 years
2% growth: March 2028= 10.7 years
3% growth: Feb 2027 = 9.6 years
4% growth: Feb 2026 = 8.6 years
5% growth: Feb 2025 = 8 years
Using a 5 year FO (hired March 2011):
0% growth: Nov 2028= 16 years
1% growth: Aug 2027 = 14.8 years
2% growth: June 2026= 13.5 years
3% growth: April 2025 = 12.3 years
4% growth: April 2024 = 11.7 years
5% growth: June 2023 = 10.7 years[/QUOTE]
Bottom line: upgrades at Southwest are very long for any new hires currently as well as anyone hired in the last 7 years. Even with stellar growth of 3% per year you are still looking at a 10 year upgrade. If you are lucky enough to get hired by SWA and any of the legacies take a close look at retirement numbers and upgrade time. Lots of difference in QOL and money with a seniority list that is moving rapidly due to massive retirement numbers.

My interest is SWA is not driven by upgrade, but other factors.

Sorry, but I just copied and pasted the previous data and I DID update the # of years info which IS correct. However, I did not change the dates. So, disregard the dates --- the actual upgrade time is correct though.
