As someone looking at SWA who lives 15 minutes south of BWI...
So how much of the 'pickup flying' is strictly day-long trips?
How realistic would it be to bid reserve with a "call me last" caveat and then pick up trips on the rest of the unused days of the month?
If you pick up/assigned a one-day reserve block can the company assign you a trip longer than a day if your schedule is open?
Thanks in advance

As someone else said, it's no longer a match but rather a direct contribution. You're eligible during training, but only after the start of the next quarter. If you start class this month, the way I understand it you won't be enrolled into the Schwab 401k account until April 1. I could be mistaken though.

Reserve guarantee is a misnomer. You will get 6tfp times the number of reserve days you sit at a minimum. It is now paid on a daily guarantee. There is a monthly line guarantee, but 11 months of the year it isn't a player.
You get 15 days off so you can do the math. In February, you will get a plus up to line guarantee of 85. Every other month you will generally get 90 or 96 tfp.
Despite what others here have indicated, my experience with 1.5 yrs of reserve is that you fly almost every day. I would sit maybe one day a month. Maybe.
The guys who can really work the reserve system live close to the lounge and pick up single reserve days from commuters. Now that we are paid per day, this practice has all but stopped.
I don't mean to sound negative, but if you look at reserve here, it goes extremely junior. There is a reason for that. Lineholders have tons more flexibility and control over their lives. Southwest is all about efficiency. Having a reserve sit at home is highly inefficient.

Hi guys/gals, been lurking for a few months and researching the threads with interest. I interviewed first part of Jan and waiting on the DB on the 25th.
I understand the reserve schedule to be 4 on, 3 off. Is there a way to trade that into 6 on 6 off? On reserve do you ever have a block of say 4-5 off in a row? Commuting on my first day off and last day off (two leg commute) would be less then ideal.
I have read that PHX is junior enough to hold within a month or so after OAK. How long would it take a new hire to hold a line in PHX?
Same question for MDW?

I've seen blocks of 4 off in a row on reserve. Not all reserve blocks are 4 days. There are also 3 day blocks.
Most of the time you can commute in on a pm reserve and out on an AM reserve, depending on your commute. I've always found this to be true, but my commute is very short. On PM reserve I can commute both sides if I don't get used on the last day.
Holding a line takes quite a while. Getting a blank line is much quicker. I believe in phx maybe 6 months to blank line but that's my SWAG based on buddies there. Blank lines are made up of leftovers from vac drops and training. Usually much better than reserve. Gives you flexibility in moving your schedule around with others and the company.
