Bye Bye Employee Lot

FLL people:

Looks like it's the old economy lot for us May 1.

No more discount parking at Fort Lauderdale airport - Sun Sentinel

The 4,000-space economy lot sits in the 2300 block of Southwest 42nd Street. Travelers pay $7.50 per day and take a shuttle to the terminal about a mile away.

When the lot closes, they will be directed to 3,100 spots in the Cypress parking garage, across from Terminal 1. The price there: $15 per day.

Travelers who leave town before April 19 will have until April 30 to move their vehicles out of the lot. They won’t be allowed into the economy lot if they are returning after April 30.

Airport employees who previously parked in the Cypress garage will use the economy lot beginning May 1.

Back to where it used to be.

Good luck covering turns

YourMom 03-05-2017 06:33 AM

Hope it is not as bad as having to park at airlines parking for DTW crews. Nothing is worse then finishing a trip and having to ride around in a short yellow bus for 30 minutes over and over again. Why can't we get some priority with respect to dropping off? I say we implement a new tipping strategy: 2 bucks for first drop off, 1 for the middle and zero for last. Although out of principle I don't like having to tip to go to work but I do anyway.

Lobaeux 03-05-2017 07:36 AM

I'm quite sure there's no tipping on the bus at FLL.

Also, wondering if the employee bus will stop at each terminal or if they'll have a scheme like they have now, one bus that goes to terminal 1 and 3 and one that goes to 2 and 4.

Gotta pay for all those crosswalk guards they've now employed at FLL.

Qotsaautopilot 03-05-2017 07:50 AM

Depending on which direction you drive from this could add up to 45min to the commute. What a poop storm. Sick calls are going to ratchet up is my guess.

Just the drive from the lot in the bus is going to add at least 30 minutes.

I think you're going to see a lot more late shows that's for sure. Talking to one of the airport employees, I heard the airport is trying to limit Uber access too.

sflpilot 03-05-2017 01:03 PM

Depending on how far you live it may be worth the cost of just taking an uber or lyft from home to the airport and get dropped off at the front door just to avoid the whole nightmare. Even better if a family member can drop you off.

OneEyedMonster 03-05-2017 01:18 PM

For guys who are based in other bases, with employee shuttles, this is funny to read. DFW is 30 minutes from the lot to the terminal. And this doesn't count the 15 minutes it takes to get to the lot in the south of the airport, when you enter from the south of the airport.

Welcome to the real world of airport employee life, no better than the kid working at terminal Starbucks.

Then I'd have to tell them I work for spirit

Qotsaautopilot 03-05-2017 02:56 PM

I have no idea how the restaurants and shops recruit people. Why go through all the hassle with parking and tsa when you can work at Starbucks off the airport for the same money.

The restaurants in the airport are not staffed by the company of the restaurant they work at. They are the same as a Spirit ramper, who actually doesnt work for Spirit.

So I know HMS Hosts runs the Starbucks and some other restaurants in DFW. Dont know what they pay compared to a "barista" who works at a Starbucks ran by Starbucks people.

Yeah I know I just figure a fast food job or retail pays about the same no matter who you work for. Why spend an extra 1-2hrs each day just trying to get from your car to the time clock.

30 minutes? Since when? It used to be 10 minutes max and the shuttle runs every 10 minutes or less.

ORD is horrible. If you're lucky it comes in 15 minutes, usually it's 20-30 and then it takes 20-25 to get to the lot depending on traffic. Plus, we stop at every terminal with that shuttle, not just ours.

I've been wondering the same thing for years.

hockeypilot44 03-06-2017 03:34 AM

I personally think it's funny. The garage turned into a mess. People just started parking where they felt like to keep their car covered. Now no one's car will be covered. I only do trip per week. Sucks for the employees that have to park twice per day every day of the week, but they deserve it. I've been hit backing out of a spot because someone was waiting for my spot and someone else illegally passed the car waiting for my spot to crash into me. I've seen a fight break out over my spot when I was leaving. The lot turned into a mess. Surprised they didn't do it sooner.

I think it's more about selling the spot for 15 bucks a day and closing down the 7.50 lot

If you park at E south lot. It's only 10-15 min to get to the terminal. I've never had issues at DFW in 4 years.

22 minutes today. Timed it. 12 to wait for bus and 10 minute drive in.

I don't care, it is what it is, but sometimes it can suck. Glad to princess park sometimes

That's not what you said the other day. You said 30 minutes from the lot to the terminal. That means the actual drive not the wait.

Like I said, come to ORD. It's a lot worse.

Because most of the people who work for Airport McDonalds are grossly unqualified to work at the McDonalds down the street from me.

You seriously trying to tell me what I was trying to say, and what my meaning was behind it?

I was talking about the wait. How long it takes in DFW, I couldnt care less about ORD, not based there. The fact you interpreted it to mean something else is just something that was lost on a forum post.

Possibly you spend too much time trying to tell pilots what the AOM is "really saying" and telling them how you interpret the words. That's all fine but please don't try and tell me what I said or meant, we aren't in your sim session, "cooperate and graduate" is not required.

I'm not trying to get into it with you, on a forum, over something as silly as what I said my shuttle time was today vs what you think it is compared to ORD. But it seems like a lot of your forum posts are straight from someone who spends a lot of time in a sim and doing line checks. No offense, just my perception.

Wow lol. You said 30 min then you timed it and it was 22 min with the actual ride being 10. He was just calling you out on your exaggeration. No need to go below the belt.

The point being, who cares?! I timed it to show I was off on time. Then I'm being told what my true intent is and what I really meant.

Who cares?! Lowest paid Airbus pilots and we are going back and forth on whose shuttle ride is longest and the accurate average ride time, not counting the drive or wait time.

Wait...oh I exaggerated again, we are the second lowest paid airline pilots. No fake news needed on these forums.

Plane Ramrod on his original post wasn't even complaining. More of an informative post. You are the one who was complaining about your "30 min ride". Not that there is anything thing wrong with complaining about parking. I think we can all agree it not at the top of our complaint list. (I think I threw a disc out on the ORD bus the other day.) Two people called you out on this "30 min" you spoke of. Then you lashed out at DN Wis. Hopefully your PM to him was to apologize.

It's official. No way I'm going through all that mess to fly a turn
