Block or better

Anyone notice that the company has stopped paying block or better on a leg by leg basis like they have been for over 6 years?

They are now "following the contract" and paying block or better on a duty period basis. Meaning if you have a two leg day and you under block the first leg by 10 minutes and over block the second by 11 minutes you will only get ONE minute of overs for that duty period instead of the 11 they've been paying for 6 years.

This is contract compliant and the most substandard language I've ever heard of (how bout those awesome work rules eh). However, it goes against the status quo of how they have been paying for 6 years. Is this not a status quo violation???

If true, this is an easy fix. Never fly any leg under block.

Perfectly legal. I think instead of status quo, you mean past practice but that doesn't apply if the contract language is clear, which it is. We went through this when the company changed block time from door close to wheel roll. You can bet if they had the technology to report wheel roll under aircraft power we would be using that too.

Yep, just heard the same thing. No more block or better by leg. Thanks for the pay cut!

Won' be a paycut for me. Safe taxi speed (AIM says fast walk, it would take me 28 minutes to fast walk 2 miles from gate to runway), double check everything, go-around if at all unstable, toga for safety. Dang this summer is gonna be fun!

I think they took that out of the AIM, but it's a good rule to live by.

Just so this doesn't get used against us later, obviously you're joking because how and when to program the mcdu is in the AOM

Is it a fast walk now.. I though it was a brisk walk? lol.. I kid. But 7-10 kts seem extremely brisk/fast to me!

Ed Force One 04-15-2017 01:51 PM

With over 200 pax, most of whom are on their first ever flight, *someone* is bound to get up and go to the lav during taxi.

VladimirPutin 04-18-2017 09:32 AM

Seems everywhere I look I see the 10kt triple heat wave spreading. What idiot taxis fast in normal conditions anyways? Makes no sense. Be safe.

beech_nut 04-18-2017 12:32 PM

Safety first. Run all checklists before starting to taxi so both can be heads up. Taxi speed 10kts or less. If that means heating the brakes and waiting for them to cool someone should have installed the brake fans.

I see no requirement for me to use my personal non-reimbursed cell phone to call and confirm/request pick-up. Maybe someone can clarify why we are not all in uber/lyft/taxi on our way to the hotel?

5-C-2

When transportation is not provided by the Company as set forth above,
or where transportation is not provided at layover stations within 30
minutes after the block-in time of the operating crew, pilots shall be
allowed actual expenses incurred for transportation between the airport
and their place of lodging. The Company may require receipts to be
submitted for any expenses for which reimbursement is made.

Edit: wait outside until block +30 and if the van has not magically appeared get the cab, expense it, or make scheduling call for the van (not likely to happen within 30). Not illegal work action, still annoying the company.

It also doesn't say "cab" it says "transportation". Our normal transportation is not a taxi so when it doesn't come I don't take a dirty taxi. I make other "transportation" arrangements. And who are these jokers arranging their own ride to get TO the airport?!!! I only arrange my own ride to go to the hotel, NEVER to get to work. If it takes two hours for the low bidder hotel connections to get me a ride to work that's not my problem and I may just time out because of it

I think it's a good time to stop using our own cellphones all together for anything benefiting the company.
