Time to take care of each other & be careful
Be careful. It's getting violent out there due to all the cancelations and the passengers are now under the assumption it's because of us.
From what I understand FLL had a riot last night, and it could have easily turned into a MOB of angry passengers attacking our crews.

AMR Eagle Flagship was furloughing and Executive was hiring to fly out of the same base. Pilots were not allowed to transfer between companies w/in Eagle even though new hires were using the same operations as crew members on a furlough list. Us Miami crewmembers were TDY in RDU to cover staffing issues. Cockpits were full of anxious union/management conversations.
I had flown GSO RDU that afternoon and saw Matt Sailor, my roommate in Florida, in operations. We arranged to meet up later that night in our TDY hotel. I was at the Doubletree waiting for him on December 13th, with a Sam Adams for him and myself at the bar. Matt's dad was a retiring NWA 747 captain, and he had lived his whole life pursuing his dream. The crew were distracted discussing the uncertain nature of their long pursued career. I believe that people in leadership at AMR now hold leadership roles at other airlines currently experiencing similar challenges.
Stay focused.
