Ask your employer

It's fascinating how Americans are obsessed with tipping, especially flight crews. Tips are meant to be reserved for EXCELLENT service, not for general handouts. It's funny to watch flight crews doing more work to dig for a dollar than the driver did to get them there.

It has nothing to do with being cheap. In their countries, stuff like tips and taxes are built into the price of the product. That way they don't have to waste their lives fretting about always having small bills on them or arguing with people over the internet about tips.

Tips are nothing more than a cultural brainwashing to pass the cost of paying the employee a proper wage from the employer to the consumer. Most Americans are pretty brainwashed in almost every aspect of their lives though. Nobody even cares to look up and figure out the fact that they have been brainwashed. Everybody just falls in line like they're supposed to, never daring to ask WHY?

And the tip should be at least $2 these days. I’m glad you’re the guy that stiffs the driver especially when it’s just the two of us most of the time. You’ve obviously never had a job that includes tips as part of your wage.

Do I think it’s a way for companies to push the cost of doing business on to the customer yes and it’s not how I would run a business but it’s how it is. I think tipping is out of hand yes and I don’t tip people that historically not been tipped (oil change), but the van drivers have been tipped since the dawn of time so I do. Standard $2. Make me sick because you don’t know how to drive $0. If it’s a short hotel van with 5-7 of us and I’m short I’ll drop down to $1. If it’s exceptionally good with quality non-nauseating driving $3-5. If you’re late it’s probably not you’re fault but I didn’t wait around and we are already on the way to the hotel, Spirit’s buying.
