Blackhawk they have you down as an exit pilot. As soon as you get here you're gone. SF has seen it to many times, Spirit doesn't want to waste the spot. That's what's going on IMHO. Question is why haven't you been called by a Legacy? You now know why Spirit won't call. My neighbor flew tankers and had 3000+ in tankers. Spirit wasn't going to ever call him. He asked me and I told him what I just told you. BTW he's at DAL now. I hate to say it but SF loves the RJ guys with no degree's and or a lot of check ride busts. A large chunk of my FO's tell me. I've got no degree, busted 3 rides. On and on. Blackhawk call your buddies and get some help. If you've got a clean record and no issues you should have no problem getting a call at the top 4. Majority of your buddies have to be there now. If you're "That guy" in your unit then you already know why you're not getting called. Black Balled. Everyone is getting called. Figure it out before this hiring window closes. I'd honestly say SF isn't going to pull you ever! Good luck you'll be at DAL before you know it!!

I was military RW, not FW. Never busted a ride, military or civilian. Not even extra training.
I think you need to understand that for those who aren't military FW it isn't so cut and dried. You are looking at your experience and assuming it's the same for everyone with your flight time. The hiring matrix that most legacy carriers use now is out of whack with historic practices. It used to be when hiring picked back up the most senior pilots were hired first from the regionals. That's just not happening this time. They are hiring those in the middle. I can't tell you how many FO's I've seen get hired. You are right though- most of the pilots I know at Spirit were FO's, so they still probably need that 1000 hours of TPIC to be competetive.

The major problem is that I've been too long at a regional in the same airframe and seat, so places like DAL won't touch me unless I get another type. Places like Spirit won't touch me because as soon as I get another type I'm competitive at the legacies.

AAL I've been told straight up by a CP I know that since I'm not military FW and/or flow, probably not going to happen. The few outliers I know who were hired knew people on the inside and worked it for years.

DAL, my GPA from 30 years ago was less than a 3.0. It was at a top 15 ranked school, but not an SA and not Ivy League, though I have a 4.0 in all classes taken since. I've been in the same seat/airframe over 10 years, and too old as a non military FW pilot. All three seem to be deal killers to them. So again, until I get another type... I have an Army buddy in the training department and a close relative on the -330. Both are scratching their heads.

UAL I have not known anyone until recently. Someone I flew with in combat just got hired there and will write me a LOR. Maybe that will help.

Yes, I've even used resume services. The last one was straight up- I was probably too old and have been in the same seat too long for DAL and recommended Spirit.

So again, I think you need to broaden your perspective on the hiring landscape. I'm glad your buddy flying heavies went straight to a major, but there are many like me who can't even get an interview. Heck, I know a LCA who also teaches for DGS on the side. Can't get an interview with them.

Well at least he or she is being honest now. I would send this post to HR and see what they say. Copy it and bring it with you to a meet and greet. I do however feel like you will take any company that will hire you and maybe your heart is not set on Spirit. A lot of us really had our heart in it for Spirit and they can read that during the hiring process.

Don't know if you are referring to me or others.

Was my heart always set on Spirit? No. Frankly, I never had the opportunity to fly on them until my recent commutes.
However, my interaction with the crews and gate agents has been very positive which is more than I can say about other airlines. These experiences have made me realize that it is a place where I can finish out my career, and at my age, that's what I'm looking for. I'm not looking for a place to do a "touch and go", but a place where I can finish out my career without tossing and turning every night about what next bad news will hit next or if my company will even exist in six months.
If I get an interview and can't convey that effectively, well that's on me. Getting the interview...

There is only so much you can do. Apply online. Go to meet and greets and job fairs (from what I see this helps the most). Hit up internal recommendations if you can get them. Cross your fingers. Keep other applications up to date as well and if they call first, go there. Good luck. I suspect you will hear from someone soon
