Recency of experience question

Military pilot with 8,000+ hours in C-130 and C-7. IP/EP in both aircraft. ATP, CFI and class I. However, been stuck on the staff for 5 years now without professional flying. How bad a problem for Spirit?

try to get on with a regional for 6mo-1yr, greatly improve your chances.

There is no need to waste 6-12 months at a regional, just make it through their training, OE and then throw your apps out , Swartz. You'll be fine.

Hiring 400 next year, 19 airplanes (or more) coming between now and the end of 2019.

Best of luck!

And upgrading 4 a month, new hire will only be in the right seat for 25 years.
This is a joke by the way, before I get attacked.

You have good reason to believe that, but the rumor is 200 upgrades next year.

The reality is it's all rumor until it's on the ramp and your butt's in the seat. 😉

I hope that’s true, seems like every instructor I talk to has been saying it will pick up next month, but that’s only since June so......

Holy Catfish, you flew the Caribou? When and where?

If next month is Nov or Dec you will not see a pick up. 100% for sure. Dec is 4 Captains that's it! We are fat on the left seat.

If you haven't flown in 5 years you have very little chance. I'd say 0%. You aren't an active Pilot. You resume isn't what we're looking for. UAL maybe?

The grid disagrees with you

Apply and let them decide for themselves.

You’re not wrong though, every month since about June, I’ve heard “next month it will pick up.” I don’t believe it esp with 4 upgrades and no new airplane orders....

You realize that even without orders we have 12 planes arriving between today and March 31st right? Not to mention by end of 2021 we will have 55 more planes than we do today.

Will a new hire today upgrade in 3 years? absolutely not without an order. But will 4 upgrades a month remain for the next 3 years? absolutely not.

We need to average around 10 upgrades a month for the next 3 years just to staff what's coming. And that's assuming 7 captains per plane for staffing (we currently run around 9 and with pbs we will be somewhere between 7-8 captains per frame)

Just about everyone I fly with seems to forget this. They all think we have no more planes coming on property for some reason.

Apply and find out. Before the contract, someone got hired by NK with 6.9 hours in the previous 5 years. Now, who knows. But put your best foot forward and see.

Pay attention to the staffing levels. We are fat everywhere. Go look at the lines. Notice all the aircraft being parked?

Aircraft being parked? LOL

As for lines, what do you mean, lines have been net increasing. Sure DFW/ORD suffered a loss but guess what, DTW/LAS/FLL gained more flying than DFW/ORD lost for november.

Yes we are very fat, on the FO side only. Captain side is far from fat. the grid is still a mish mash of red green with hardly any open time out there. So I will agree that the captain side is rightly staffed, not fat. Fat would mean a full green grid like say... DTW FO. Literally 3 red days for all of november.

Last I checked, DTW CA has only 3 red days. Definitely been fat on the CA side in DTW. Don’t know about others.

DFW is fat on the CA side. Every day is green on the CA side, some with 45 reserves a day, only exception is Thanksgiving.

We dont have any open time because we are heavy on pilots, so the company creates more REL lines for those pilots, then the open time for IOT is dropped on those REL lines, along with RES days; hence why we dont have open time and why we have so many green days.

godsgift2aviatn 10-31-2018 06:08 PM

ORD is chunky on the CA side. Last I checked the whole grid was green (by a wide margin), including Thanksgiving.

RonnyK320 11-01-2018 05:27 AM

ACY is totally green on the captain side too.

Happy fall Y’all!

Nothing to see here.
They will push the schedule in December and then again from March to August.

I hope they do get behind on hiring. Let the 200% flow!
