New hire bases spirit

Hi ,
Can anyone tell me where new hires are being based? And how long would it take to get a florida base as line holder or RSV line .
Thanks

ACY and DTW out of training. FLL, MCO, or ORD within a month or two of training completion. About 6 months for DFW or LAS.

These are all subject to change but that’s a rough picture of what it looks like right now.

thank you for the infomation. Any idea how long to hold a line for any of the bases.

1 year for DFW

OffInTheJungle 02-27-2019 05:10 PM

And DTW for reserve?

Probably more than a year from what I'm hearing

Call2Push 02-28-2019 05:28 AM

I am a May 2018 hire and have been moving backwards in DFW. I have another 10-15 people ahead of me before I can have a chance at holding a line. I’m hoping summer may change that.

dfw is a dead base for now, no growth at all, wouldnt expect much movement at 4 upg a month

Does ORD seem to be growing?

I would say No. I'm not positive on the FO side but for sure it's not on the CA side. Honestly at 11 new hires a month nothing is really growing.

At this time the best bases to be in at Spirit are the ones where the big 3 are not. We are a major thorn in their side. Southwest and JetBlue don't seem to care as much as we have been growing like gangbusters in MCO and FLL.

How about LAS?

I think it will grow once the hiring / upgrades picks up. There’s still lots of CA who took the first upgrade and waiting to get back to LAS. Also some senior FO waiting for the LAS CA spot to open up before upgrading. You should see some back fill, once there’s a vacancy that has an opening besides MCO.

What are the trips like out of ACY? I'm probably in the minority since ACY would be my base of choice. Glad to hear its going to new hires as of now. Thanks.

ACY trips are just like anywhere else, 1, 2, 3, and 4 day trips. Reserve goes pretty senior in ACY, especially the afternoon shift. It's a great little base, our parking is literally a one minute walk to the terminal. I hope it stays around!

Good luck.

Sounds like it is time for a new aircraft order!!!! There are a lot more secondary and tertiary dots to connect!

Someone above mentioned ACY and DTW normally available right out of training, is this still the case? If not, how long to hold reserve in DTW?

Also for DTW, about how long to hold a line?

You mentioned ACY reserve goes senior (I don't quite understand how that could be), so does that mean someone getting ACY out of training would soon get a line?

Lastly, (and I know it's a personal preference thing, but) would one choose ACY lineholder or DTW reserve for best QOL for someone living within an hour or so from DTW parking lot?

I searched previous threads, but the vitals change over time and trying to check the current pulse... thank you in advance

Reserve is a good deal in ACY, that's why. I flew 15 and credited 109 this month. I noticed on the FO side reserve goes junior. You probably won't see a line there for a couple of years.

DTW reserve over commuting to ACY, without a doubt. Even if you are on reserve for 18 days a month, I bet you'll only actually work 10-12 max. You could probably take alternate deadheads home and get home a day early most of the time. ACY is next to impossible to get to unless you live within driving distance or if you live in Florida. Otherwise it'll be double deadheads or renting a car in PHL. The train isn't running right now, and when it does it sucks pretty bad.

I hope this helps.

It is junior. but not new hire junior. You’d probably hold after a month or two.

WE'RE ALL TRANSFERRING TO ACY!

MCO is still something of a question mark, as in in grew a bit and then tapered off as we exist in the lull before summer flying and when hiring is meant to pick up in the second half of the year as the bulk of deliveries occur.

Not that MCO won’t grow, but at the moment I think some lower-mid seniority pilots are biding time and probably waiting to pounce when I becomes evident another growth spurt will happen and they are assured better lifestyle.

Between late year growth and the real effects of PBS yet to be seen, it would be a tough call to say what options are assured to a mid-summer or after hire. With the inevitable shuffling to come, the only guess I’d venture in that anyone hired in the first half of the year could hold the base of choice by the holiday season.

Although My opinion and a token will get you on the subway.

All MCO new hires will fly the dumbo plane and thats straight from the horses mouth.
