BWI base?

slow goings on here lately, so I figured a new thread is In order.

Having said that. I personally think we are too small for Yet another base. However Im noticing tons and tons of BWI overnights and flying. Not my favorite city or overnight but business is good there. Anyone think it maybe possible that could happen? would ACY close? Im Verklempt . Talk amongst yourselves.

Just because we fly a lot to a city doesn’t mean they need to base crews there

I agree. But there are Lots
Of deadheading crews going there
To cover flights though. And we don’t do a lot of flights into ACY and it’s a base.

Spirit pretty much runs ACY and they probably make a nice premium on all flights out of there; whereas LAX we do a ton of flights but the competition is tough, so margins are probably similar. Point being I don’t think there is a direct correlation between “lots of flights=big profit” and “not many flights=low profit”

It’s not a profit thing...it’s a logistics thing. We’ll see a base in BWI when the cost of DH’s, hotels, Y-list trips and reassigned crews exceeds the cost of having a domicile there.

While we’re at it let just put a base in MSY and ATL to complete the ghetto triangle. BWI would hurt qol for every pilot here. Enough of the new base talk. We have enough. Let’s grow the current domiciles and let pbs actually work. It doesn’t help if we all work in 20 small bases instead of 5 big ones

The ghetto triangle? Ok we get it, no domiciles in predominantly black cities.

Unfortunately, BWI will be a new base in the near future...but I do agree, it’s gonna hurt QOL for a lot.

it will happen

This came up during the interview; definitely no plans to close ACY (they brought up the idea once and there was a lot of backlash) but a BWI base is possible. As it is right now they use ACY pilots to cover EWR, PHL, LGA, and occasionally BWI. My vote was to expand ACY and make it a cobase with EWR and PHL.

It's already in motion, FAA was notified about BWI base. BWI will continue to grow. It's easy in and out, Loads are high. Plenty of gate space, plenty of cheap gate space!! Over time ACY base and maintenance will disappear.

I'm curious as to what sort of notification the FAA requires.

I'm really curious where you are getting all this insider information. Bendo, is that you?

Occasionally BWI? We do more Limo’ing to BWI than any other Base Limo’s to any other City. Almost every RSV pairing has a limo to BWI and on the last day a triple DH to get back to ACY. The drivers from Joe’s Limo can get pretty reckless at times...ammmmriiight?

They use ACY RSVs to limo guys to LGA,EWR, PHL & BWI. All of those cities are growing but ACY hasn’t grown in over 3 years so do the math......

POI is notified of company plans on a regular basis. Bendo out!

BravoTango 07-11-2019 08:30 AM

Baltimore is much more commutable than ACY... or Florida for that matter, for pilots in the Northeast.

Chimpy is right on. BWI operationally is a mess and it's a reserve/XY list festival pretty much daily in BWI.
