NEXT contract - any predictions ?

It appears the current contract is up in 2023.

Any pay raise, benefits, etc predictions for next contract ? Off-duty travel benefits with AA, UAL, DAL ?

Thank you

Collective bargaining agreements are never "up", they become amendable. To Spirit management, that means, how many more years can we get away with paying <insert labor group here> sub-industry standard pay to pad our bottom line. If history is any indication, no gains will come without a protracted fight. We could discuss ad nauseum what we are looking for in the next CBA or the best way forward to secure these gains, but this is not the appropriate place, and hopefully everyone here knows better than to negotiate in a public forum.

AFAIK, travel agreements are not generally negotiated into a CBA. As we continue to grow, hopefully we will be able to work out some long overdue mutually beneficial OAL travel agreements, but I would certainly not factor travel benefits into my decision to come here.

I want non rev benefits on Virgin Galactic. No voter until they get that in there.

Seeing as we should have somewhere between three and four thousand pilots on property at that time, and a significant number of them will be sitting reserve on both seats for a while (maybe longer in certain bases) it may be wise to revisit Reserve quality of life.

Starbucks Coffee on the plane, WIFI, paperless cockpit and more destinations served by Spirit. Those are my guesses.

BTW, the OP is the infamous “regional or Spirit” guy who posted a thread in the SWA forum a year ago asking which was the better career path - to go to Spirit or a regional as a stepping stone to SWA. So take this thread with a grain of salt.

Need to "check the 121 box" on the resume, I am being told by a few trusted folks this is what I need and after maybe a year of that, SWA should consider my application as competitive. All other blocks checked, to include Turbine PIC and Check Airman. No B737 type.

With that said, does SWA care one way or the other if I am an FO at Envoy, or an FO at Spirit (ostensibly flying "big airliners") ?

Yes, using this forum for what it is designed for: sharing/obtaining information.

Thanks

Well it’s been about a year since your post in the SWA forum (which you deservedly got pretty roasted for, btw), did you “check the 121 box” and get hired by your “target airline” Southwest?

I’m not sure why you’re now asking a somewhat bizarre question in the forum of a what you consider to be a stepping stone airline; especially a question that deals with an event 4 years from now. Surely you’ll be a skipper at SWA by then.

I wasn’t so lucky. I came to Spirit instead of taking one of those lucrative regional jobs and have been stuck here ever since. My target airline is Mesa. Maybe one day...I can still dream. [emoji3590]

In all honesty though, you are definitely NOT the type Spirit is interested in. Look elsewhere.

Spirit (and yes, Frontier) are good places to hang out while you wait for Delta to call. If they never call, you are a captain soon in 5 yrs or less and prob 200k+ flying new equipment.

I still can’t decide if you're trolling, have a drinking issue, or you just don’t get this industry at all.

If it’s the first one, I hope you log those 1500 737 PIC hours at SWA quickly enough to make it to Norwegian Air Shuttle.

If it’s the latter and you didn’t mean to troll, well there’s a lot of new things that we will have to negotiate for in the ‘23 contract. I think the most complicated part will be implementing pay rates for widebodies. At this point seems like management has not a clear picture if it’s going to be the 350 or the 787. I personally think that the 330Neo is still on the table. Also, we would need to introduce augmented crew rules in the new contract, specially for those longer flights to Eastern Europe.

And there’s always the wild card. Maybe we buy someone before.
If that’s the case we’ll have to get a new contract altogether. I don’t know how we would blend Delta’s work rules with ours.... it’s going to be a tough one.

Improvement for reserves? That boat has sailed. They will never get any of that back. We’ll be lucky to not have airport reserve on the next contract

My prediction...

70% Yes
30% No

I disagree. They could fight for dropping outside in as long as the grid is green, possibly within a set time frame. Maybe allow picking up open time on days off so reserves could break guarantee. There’s a ton of things they could do to make reserve more palatable without opening it back up to checker-boarding.

If Trump doesn’t win 2020, less then we have now. Although, some say a bad economy might bankrupt the legacies, so maybe we keep what we have plus a little extra after we pick up their pieces.

"In the year two thousand and twenty three...."

An agreement will be reached whereas per diem is deemed no longer necessary as almond M&Ms return to unseat peanut M&Ms as the crew meal of choice for a 13-hour duty day.

Keep dreamin' kiddo. The legacies are too big to fail. And their lobbyists will get that bailout from Washington. Count on it.
