IT

I'm about to start indoc within the next month. Seems like there's a lot of things that are done with old fashioned pen and paper even with just the new hire stuff. More so than the regional I was at. How's the IT out on the line?

flyjbh 12-11-2019 06:44 PM

It will take some getting used to working for Spirit. We are low-cost carrier and you can definitely see that in our training and our infrastructure. They are working harder on it as we get bigger but as far as a training experience and technology it will be a step below what you may be used to you in a well run regional.

Thanks for the response. How are things like mx write ups, releases, or mx logs? All paper, or some Ipad?

Why does it matter?

What’s wrong with pen and paper?

A couple of things that come to mind, like if we have a mx issue on taxi out we can do a mx reset and be back in service without return to gate through the ipad. Also not needing to run to the crew room to print a release, or having to calculate w/b manually. Not necessarily bad things, I'd be more than willing to do it, but just curious as to what it will be like for the next however many years of my career

Knob123 12-11-2019 07:21 PM

Releases are brought to you by the gate. MEL? The captain will write it up get an amendment from the ACARS and we are good to go. You won’t need to worry about pen and ink unless your ACARS is inop....no big deal

IceFlash 12-11-2019 07:23 PM

Unfortunately it’s not as nice as OO’s FlightView. Maybe we’ll get something like that in the long run

EFBprobs 12-11-2019 07:27 PM

Ecellent, thanks guys. Any tips for training? From what I have here just know the flows, bolded limiatations, and emergency procedures?

Limitations, memory items, AOM Vol 2, and get together with you sim partner and a study group.

We can do a computer reset too without having to return to the gate. You just take that pen and write that you did a reset in the logbook.

Ops takes care of giving us our paperwork...No need to run to the Crew room. They will even bring us ice to the airplane too if we need it. So no need sending your F/O to 7/11.

W/b are done on our ACARS

Please don’t take this personally but it sounds like Spirit is more ahead of the game with our old “pen and paper” than with your last employer.

That sounds great, that's why I asked the question, and no I don't take it personally. Thanks for the info

No problem. Good luck in training! This is a great place to work.

Judge Smails 12-12-2019 04:16 AM

Even if the ACARS is inop, W&B is done by dispatch over the phone. All you're doing is jotting down numbers that they've calculated for you.

gringo 12-12-2019 04:53 AM

Crew room?

What’s that?

It’s the place that they will make unavailable to pilots, then you would ***** about it being contractual. Not that they would, just saying.

It would be nice to find some rooms inside the actual terminal (post security).

I haven’t been to all, but a lot are outside by the ticket counters. MCO is a PITA.

The answer is Pilot Only crew rooms. This mixed stuff is silly. Even at Comair we had pilot only Crew rooms. Somewhere along the way we got Cabin Crew and Flight Crew mixed up.

I wouldn’t worry about write ups, amendments, maintenance or any of that stuff till you get the 4th stripe. Until, your job is to find said problems, prest to captain, then sit back and relax until they work it out. I’d say you have at least 3 years until you need to worry about how it gets done. My .02

I think our write up system is pretty streamlined. It’s much easier than some of the other carriers that operate our aircraft. Same with our performance numbers. It’s very easy to a mend a situation that changes and get on the runway and takeoff. I was on American the other day and it took them 20 minutes to get their numbers. It was ridiculous

Well, we did only recently separate the two pay scales.

So where do you go to get the most accurate and up-date pay report? I saw the email about the single sign-on but it didnt mention that anything else was different. I signed onto the Spirit Link and I can’t find our payreport. I would try emailing HR but everything is automated now and I just get a replay back that my email is being automatically rejected. Man so frustrating.

lol thanks, that actually helps.

bruhaha 01-28-2020 05:31 AM

The whole process of accessing your pay report gives mobile devices / tablets a hard time, involving entering your login and password multiple times, But it works out a lot better on a desktop computer. Which means the 12 year old computer with a floppy drive and cd rom drive actually has a purpose for once instead of being relegated to be a possible donation pile to the Salvation Army.

3enginegoaround 04-02-2020 08:37 AM

Could someone tell me how to access Concur to do an expense report? This is my first time using it. I can’t seem to get help anywhere else.

I downloaded the app on my phone and tried using my employee email to set it up but doesn’t seem to like that.

bruhaha 04-02-2020 08:32 PM

Reach out to your chief pilot or crew coordinator for help in getting concur set up.
