Question Headsets for Spirit ships

What do people use? Ships headset or BYO? Do I need ANR (Bose, DCPro), or would a Telex 750 be fine? Do all the ships have XLR plugs?

I start in April, so have a few months to find a deal..

90% use the ship set and go topless at 18k. However none of the ship sets have wind screens on the mic so I bought a pack and carried them with me. Just put it on and off each time. If you want your own set it’s the usual 2 plug jack.

Ship's set is the Telex 750 so if that's what you like, it's already there. Dual plug like posted above.

Wow - in the jungle jet taking the ANR headset off at anytime, you can feel the cochlear cilia dying!!

That sounds like a great plan. Any particular ones you can point to? TIA

Thanks 1$ - but I don't think I have even held a 750 in my hands - just seen the pics - but if that is the way to go, I can go ships set and bring some windscreens and cleansing wipes. easier to carry than a Bose A20, and so so so much cheaper.

My 2nd kid started working on his pilot's certificate too, so my 2nd A20 has been repurposed. Wasn't looking forward to another $1095...

i find the 750’s to be inadequate. The bus is not quiet up front below about FL250 unless you want to climb at 280KIAS. I’d imagine you could land a decent set of used 850’s for significantly less than a a thousand dollars, and make due until you’re ready to get a good headset.

Try and find a Telex 850 on eBay or Craigslist.
Slim size and TSO’d.
Found mine on CL for $180.

David Clark Pro x2 Passive

These are the ones I use. The passive noise cancellation is more than adequate for the Airbus, audio quality is good, no batteries to charge, decent warranty, and under $400.

the ship set sound quality is poor, i use clarity aloft, used them on the 170/175 too. much better sound quality and comfort

i agree but everyone wants to go topless at 18k regardless. So even if you have your own set you only get to use them about 20 minutes each flight.
