One thing I'll give this management group is they're not the panicking type.

That is very encouraging. I agree

I agree. Well written and conveyed. I haven’t, personally, looked at our 10K, but I’ve read that we have a lot of money in the bank and seem to be in a good position to ride this out.

About $1B in cash and $700M in other assets that can be sold or encumbered if need be.

I feel like maybe I read a different letter. They said “We will continue to review our crew hiring and new hire training schedules to support our growth plans and will adjust as appropriate.” I feel like if you have a class date that’s in the near future you might be ok, but after that......

I think they review crew hiring to support growth plans every day .... coronavirus or not.

If that’s what they need to do, so be it. Have no idea what’s even going on behind the scenes with the Airbus deliveries either. Possibly deferring could be an option as well, if the plant can’t get people in as well...Labor and parts from the US and EU can easily be delayed because of Corona and push deliveries off

Theh said near term deliveries can’t be put off, but those down the toad have more wiggle room.

Airbus has had a tough time meeting delivery timelines the last year or so. This virus is sure to add time to the delivery schedule. It may work in our favor.

There’s slowed and then there’s stopped. Slowing near term deliveries is the best we can hope for. They’re still coming.

agree. The airplanes are coming and not stopping. We still need to staff appropriately. I say we all just do our jobs and buy a crap ton of SAVE stock.

Did I get a different memo than the rest of you all? All I saw was “...we will pause hiring....” with a bunch of fluff on either side.

soeaking of, I know new hires are lurking here... any classes canceled? They have enough “hired” in the pool to fill classes until June, but I’m wondering if they are canceling newhire classes.. supposed to bring 68 on board in April classes alone

flyjbh 03-13-2020 08:14 AM

I have a friend that had his MTC rescheduled to a video chat. If we were canceling classes, not sure why they would be holding recruiting events

Nope that’s what I got out of it too, I thought I was reading something wrong as well.

Maybe you should have taken time to read the email and not dismiss the “fluff” then go rush to post on a forum. Your lack of reading comprehension and focus skills will lead to misinformation.

The pause in hiring is for “non-operational support center positions”.

Hiring for operational and crew continues, training continues.

Think you read it wrong.....hiring to support current operation = still hiring pilots.

thank you. I’m sure it was an honest mistake but as someone else said, potential candidates are selfishly lurking hoping for any grain of info.

thanks again

It can always change but for now, leadership says they are hiring pilots

Delta announced today they are postponing delivery of new aircraft.

From Ed...."Deferring new aircraft deliveries to manage our reduced capacity and preserve cash."

So I don think any one on here knows what can be deferred or not deferred.

Ted Christie knows, and I’m quoting him from his recent Q/A.

I guess we read different meanings in the email from today. Which is expected, lots of "code" talk

"we expect to resume our growth once this situation resolves"
"Starting today, we are working to further improve our financial footing by reviewing all discretionary and capital expenditures"
"support our growth plans and adjust as appropriate"

All im saying, its all up in the air right now and nothing is set in stone..or as Ted said "the full impact is still unclear." Nothing is off the table, nor should it be.

I’m not talking about his email. I listened to the Q and A he and other C suite members gave at the JP Morgan event.

He said explicitly that they can’t turn away deliveries in the short term, but that production slots further out were more flexible and that Airbus has a good history of working with their airline partners in past situations.

Put it this way. Near term deliveries are already in the jigs or in some form of post build finishing/ certification. Too late. We’re getting them. Later slots are just fictional builds on paper that likely haven’t even drawn from the logistics train in prep for construction yet.

I believe we are on the hook for just the 2020 Deliveries.

Which would make a lot of sense.
