Pilot Shortage Update

JetBlue has less than 300 applications.

Frontier less than 10, yes 10.

I have a friend who applied at Spirit with 1500 hours in a 172 with no college. Called an hour after applying and was hired.

By June 2023 United, American, Southwest and Delta will be hiring pilots with no college and 1500 hours in a single engine aircraft.

There is just no reason to accept less than the Alaska hourly rates.

Sometimes you have to save management from themselves.

Every airline pays the same for tires, for landing fees, for jet fuel, etc.

The Spirit pilots deserve the Alaska rates or better.

It’s just business.

Sir, I'm not sure where the frontier numbers come from. I personally know 30+ people that have applied there after the announcement of the RTP. And considering they had longer lines than southwest, delta, American, or united at RTAG, that's really hard to believe.

Where are you getting these numbers from? Seems very low, even given the state of things currently...

Making sh#t up to make yourselves feel better about your life decisions I see.

Here’s a better idea, don’t embarrass yourselves by voting in something below your worth.

dualinput 12-09-2022 12:26 PM

Alaska is old news. It’s delta. Get on board

Alpiner 12-09-2022 12:51 PM

I’m impressed you seem to know how many applications are on file at multiple airlines. I have no idea how many are on file at the one I work for

Verified through three separate sources:

Ben Dover (Frontier)
Mike Oxlong (Spirit)
Ho Li Fuq (Asiana)

Did Mike Hunt not give his opinion?

False. The airlines do not pay the same rates for fuel, tires, landing fees, etc. They have contracts for all those things, through different vendors, signed at different times, and at different volumes.

I agree with your point that Spirit pilots need better. But, your supporting material is wildly false.

Except you guys aren't Delta. The faster you realize that, the softer the landing.

Thank you, Mr. Delta, for putting us lowly pilots back in our place. Now hurry back to your ivory tower before the stench of the unwashed masses hit your nostrils.

The reality is that Spirit is no legacy. Legacy pilots are in a different league and compensated accordingly.

You either are HR for every…single…airline…with access to sensitive information at each, or you have no idea what you are talking about. I know which one my money is on.

If you add total alimony checks written monthly to the number of pairs of truck nuts that you have on vehicles, multiplied that by the amount of breasts your blazer has, what number do you get?

Just another Delta pilot coming to make sure we understand he’s above us. I think they get trained on this as part of Indoc. Nothing new to see here.

Nothing covers a bad bet like saying “wait a decade”

ZooKeeper 12-10-2022 04:43 PM

Spirit pilots are discount pilots. Just look at how most of us look. Sloppiest pilot group I’ve been a part of.

BeechedJet 12-10-2022 06:56 PM

Remember when our guy got photoshopped out of the ALPA national photo?

Those should have been the words on this stupid lanyard, or something about the apple having multiple bites.

While flyingmau5 should go back to flying around the country with his hat on and keeping delta ops channel free from kittens. Zookeeper isn’t wrong.

its means america west guys weren’t “legacy pilots” either but look how that turned out. You all just let history repeat itself over and over again and everyone is so shocked when their expectations of parameters and boxes they place airlines or sectors of the industry fall away when they landscape changes but no one in the industry can wrap their head around the landscape is entirely liquid and you are all just along for the ride and take your gots when you got em. Delta rates are great today but they could be pan am rates tomorrow. In the airlines you have absolutely no idea of the future only today.
