Where is ALPA?

It's been a week since the court decision and all we've heard is "our attorneys are reviewing the decision" and "if you are concerned about the future, talk to PPS". This is unacceptable. Our airline is potentially on the verge of collapse and I think we can all agree the best thing for our careers is for this merger to go through. So why isn't ALPA in front of every news camera it can find fighting for our jobs? This is a court decision, but I think we can also all agree that its roots are political in nature. Playing with the future of our careers should not be used as "victory notches" in some politicians' belt. Some may say "the public doesn't care" and that "there is nothing we can do". I call BS. I'd rather go down swinging than sit on our hands going "oh well". I'm sure legally wise there may be things that ALPA can and can not do. If that is the case, then tell us! COMMUNICATE. It's time our elected leaders do exactly that... LEAD. Just food for thought, discuss...

ALPA has nothing to do with the merger. This is strictly a company/business action. This HAS been communicated multiple times by both unions.Unions are teams of individuals coming together to guarantee the things you care about like decent wages, affordable health care, job security, safe and respectful workplaces, and fair scheduling.
Fighting the government over who's name is on the door, isn't on that list.

JetBlue and Spirit Unions Split on Airlines’ Merger

"In a letter on Thursday, the Transport Workers Union, which represents 6,800 JetBlue flight attendants, asked Attorney General Merrick B. Garland and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to prevent the merger. The union said it feared that JetBlue, which would acquire Spirit, had no intention of honoring worker contracts afterward, adding it was concerned that the deal would violate antitrust laws and undermine competition."

Guess JetBlue's flight attendants are willing to do more than us. They must have missed the governments name on the door or something.

you are like a little baby crying hysterically in the aisle at Walmart when mommy says no more toys. Nobody gives a **** about you. Alpa National has zero influence on anything in this industry, it's just another business like Spirit. SPA enforces contract compliance, they don't get involved in running the company.

SPA ALPA said they are against the merger. So I guess they got what they wanted.

Our Position on Merger SupportFellow Spirit ALPA Pilots,

Yesterday, the JBU MEC passed a resolution endorsing the proposed merger of Spirit Airlines and JetBlue Airways. We understand the significance of this step and respect our JetBlue brothers’ and sisters’ decision; however, we find ourselves in a different position at this time.

While your MEC would certainly prefer to be able to join the JBU MEC in their endorsement, it is our responsibility to ensure that Spirit and JetBlue pilots share equally in the potential of this merger, and we have several unanswered questions that currently preclude our ability to offer that support.

Should this merger be approved, our pilot groups have a long road ahead in negotiating a joint collective bargaining agreement with JetBlue. As we all know, an employer only has one chance to make a first impression. How JetBlue management chooses to welcome Spirit pilots into their ranks will be telling. Will management perpetuate an economic disparity between Spirit and JetBlue pilots, or will they take steps to immediately address it? Is JetBlue the type of employer that treats Labor fairly or will it utilize every page out of the tired, old, anti-union playbook by attempting to whipsaw one group against the other to achieve its own interests?

This is a fundamental concern that must be addressed by JetBlue management as they seek government approval for this transaction. The cornerstone of any union is parity – equal pay for equal work. A merger between two carriers MUST NOT result in anything to the contrary.

JetBlue’s mission statement is “To inspire humanity – both in the air and on the ground.” As JetBlue seeks both government approval and our support for this merger, it must align its actions with its mission statement and demonstrate that this merger will inspire rather than divide its pilots. We call on JetBlue management to take the necessary steps to ensure that Spirit pilots’ pay equals that of their JetBlue counterparts when we all become JetBlue employees. Doing so would not only be consistent with its mission but would be worthy of our support.

Fraternally,
SPA MEC
