Spirit -> Emirates

I saw on social media that emirates or holding road shows in some of the Spirit hubs. Any of your guys tempted to go?
I hear the money is pretty decent. Not too sure about everything else. Presumable most spirit peeps would get the 380 the lifestyle of which is pretty mint.

Why would you presume that?

Because that’s what they’ll put you on if you’re Airbus rated…

Have you spoken to any of our pilots that came to spirit from the mid east carriers? I’d start there

You still only count time spent on the pilot seat towards duty limits? So time on bunk or DH doesn't count. Sounds mint.

There's a reason hardly anyone returns to ME3 once they get out of there.

This is the way.

When you need a job, you need a job. But as long as some carriers in the States are hiring they are probably better options.

I had an instructor at Spirit who was an A380 CA

My new hire class at Atlas had 3 A380 CA's. They all got recalled back during training, all 3 are still here. The former chief instructor for 777 of Emirates is with us too. Same thing. Never going back.

I hope every NK guy finds a port in this storm, and I hope it's not in the sandbox (unless it somehow suits their personal situation).
I have a lot of friends at EK, mint is not the word they use for their QOL. All would be here in the US if they had the correct visa.

Nobody wants to fly for Emirates.

I had mil buddies doing that in the 00's. They all came back after 2010, as quick as they could.

Like somebody said, if you need a job you need a job. But US regionals probably pay better now, assuming you're a DEC. I'd rather fly a Deuce out of Podunk Falls, mostly avoiding WOCL, than work for EK.

Guess if you're young and single (or adventerous marriage with no kids) it might be fun for a while.

Left NK as a single digit CA in base. Plan A: Legacy, Plan B: Cargo, Plan C: DEC regional, Plan D: Go back to 91k/135, Plan E: work at HD, Plan F: have the family collect on my life insurance policy. I guess F would be the likely outcome working for E3. I've been around for a while. Sandbox was OK a decade or two ago. Would not send my MIL there.

Its not the 2000s anymore, hence what I said.

My sim partner at TSA was a DEC leaving from flying the 777 @ Emirates.

So Emirates to Trans States. Let that sink in for a few minutes.

united20 12-08-2024 05:41 PM

Money is not bad, but you have to live there and work at least 20 days every month.

Hulas always was an amateur at anything he did. Although, in this example, that's a net positive for the worker...hard as it is to say nice things about the man. God rest his soul, and chain the gates to be sure.

Crazy. As a legacy captain, I average about $40,000 per month working 14 days at the most. Some months don’t work at all.

Nobody cares…

- ”I’m a pilot”
- “Ok…so did you want pickles on that or not?”

I didn’t mean that. I’m trying to remove this post. I’m cranky today

Those are benefits??

I think we're coming full circle back to the days of "you get to have a flying job" as the main benefit.

Anyone born after about 1990 has likely experienced this before.

I had an FO have "Mother" for pay for his 73 type after a lecture from me about "pay for training is an absolute no". He's retired now after 30 plus years SWA. My advice is, don't take my advice.

Maybe it makes sense for people from Europe or Australia? I hear Ryan Air pay sucks. I still say a Spirit pilot would be better off at any regional while waiting for a furlough recall or a Big 3 class date.

Even counting the 'free' housing the pay rates are quite low for a wide-body captain especially considering the onerous 'rostering.'

If the economy goes down the drain then the math might change but right now there are plenty of jobs in the US that are better than this. I'm glad we have some actual numbers to talk about.

Uuuuuughh that's it?

I mean like Are they hoping to entice people frustrated at WestJet Encore?
........sure ain't like that LIV Golf Tour thing.

havoste 12-29-2024 03:34 PM

That salary is tax free and housing (3br villa) is provided. Still not comparable to the US but becomes a better option for pilots elsewhere in the world.

3br villa only if you get lucky. Calling it a villa sounds fab, it's a house built to, what in the US is called builder spec level.

22 days of work. Time spent in the bunk not counting towards your duty/flight time limits. 120-130 hours of time in plane per month. And when it suits them, time spent in the biz class middle seat is "rest", DH TATL then operate back as one duty day.

There is a reason why Emirates only attracts people from places like Bangladesh these days.

bluespoon 12-29-2024 07:13 PM

The only benefit probably is flying with all those Eastern European FAs. Also at least you don’t have to pay for housing if you’re only there 8 days a month
