Spirit 2166
Divert into PNS a couple of days ago, any follow up on what was wrong with this jet? I’m a curious new airbus operator.
|
Someone said LGCIU. Unverified info.
|
The news said autopilot disconnect an unable to maintain altitude

This seems like a phishing expedition. OP only asks about incidents in past posts. If anything happened I’m sure the NTSB will have an answer for you at some point. If they don’t then nothing of substance happened and is no need of clickbait. Flights divert for all kinds of things all the time.

Not sure what you’re accusing me of. I’ve diverted. If you have any questions about my diverts, I’m an open book.

Open door indication. FA's prepped for a ditching. All life vest recovered on a Dark Website with an ISP in MBJ. Thankfully, the new Chief Pilot of something or other whose name I can't say without giggling resolved the issues.

I’d also care to know more about the incident. From airline pilots. On an airline pilot forum. At some point you gotta stop with the sus card. Guy asked a very legit question. It’s unusual for some of the factual details about this event. That plus the stupid media reports have people asking. They want to feel better about their booked flight on Spirit. After 20 years of flying these things, I haven’t the slightest clue as to what to tell them. Thanks to the OP for getting the discussion started. |
News says divert and emergency landing due to autopilot issues. Must be much more to the story and anyone operating airbuses (airbusii?) could benefit from knowing the back story. Why is everyone so defensive about anything ever asked?? An airline pilot forum talking about airline pilot stuff…
|
Could be something as simple as no autopilot and resulting non-RVSM compliance altitude equaling not enough fuel? Just a thought.

Because speculation doesn’t help anyone. Words get twisted and taken out of context. If there is ever an incident on any aircraft it’s best to wait for the NTSB to release findings. If there is no report it’s a nothing burger and a bunch of wild nonsense can spiral out of control in a 24hr new cycle that feeds off of clicks and things that burn make clicks
Who asked for “speculation” specifically. The post was in pursuit of information from those who may have been involved or were made aware of the details. As simple as that. Yes, this is exactly the place we discuss this sort of thing. And yes, we are all adults (well most) and can ignore speculation on our own. |

No offense, but anyone in the know is not going to talk about it on a public forum. Everyone else who isn't in the know is just speculating and pretending that they know, when in reality they have no idea.
I guess I’m an idiot. Because if I knew it was a big nothing burger and just a precautionary measure of some sort, I’d discuss it amongst others. Stinks to know that when some one DOES know, they’ll never discuss it on this forum. Oh well…. |

The crew that ferried it out the next day to MCO had like 11 MEL's on it from the incident. So no it wasn't "just the autopilot". Case closed move on people.

Have you ventured into the safety section of this forum? All sorts of discussion regarding incidents. From people that know. Can you explain the repercussions of someone saying “ yeah, was in the area and heard on the radio “X”. Bumped into the crew after and they told me “XYZ” ??? I guess I’m at a loss as to how it’s so morally incorrect or harmful to the aviation safety community, for someone to say they had an engine failure or a gear malfunction, while operating a flight. No one is divulging details as to what they did or how they treated the incident. Just a story about something going wrong. Relax man. No one gives a crap. |

I can make some stuff up if you want to spin your wheels. |

Before ASAP or FOQA, DC-9's and such when I wanted to be somebody at Miramar, I suggested in a very important meeting about misbehaving pilots, that I'd volunteer to put out a monthly safety report (I was the only that knew how to make a PowerPoint or a PDF in training after all).
I said we could collate and explain all the safety reports and broken airplanes and broken pilots in a slick, glossy PDF, with subject-matter expert opinions and scoldings, so the guys would know what's going on. Everyone from the Senior VP of something to the CP to my other underpaid underlings looked at me like I had three heads. I only have two, my favorite one's woefully underused, or maybe just worn out from the calluses on my right ... never mind, off-topic. I really don't know why they were so appalled, maybe they were afraid of even more air returns, arguments with MX control, refusing to take an airplane with a history, and probably liability from hearsay. So I wisely finished my argument with "The worst thing with pot is eating a bag a Cheeto's but give me a bottle of Jack and I'll take a swing at a cop in a heartbeat" Oh well, I'm out soon and can just feel that Glaucoma coming on. |
