This latest vacancy/reduction bid is a sham and is making a mockery of the whole process. What is "defensive bidding" anyway, and who are we trying to save from their own bidding errors by re-opening the bid for 24 hours? What about those who are negatively impacted by the re-bid who actually bid correctly the first time?

We've seen plenty of Mötley Fool stories on Spirit in the past few weeks/months and there's always been talk of whether the Fool is a good basis or authority on anything, let alone Spirit. Here, Fool makes its own best case why they have NO idea what they're talking about:

Why Apple Isn't Among the 25 Best Companies in America (AAPL)

I realize this doesn't have anything to do with Spirit, but come on, Apple NOT a top 25 best companies in America because of "supply issues" and "worker conditions" with FoxConn? Even though Apple "ranks high with investors, customers and employees", because of the way a Chinese company treats its employees, Apple is a bad company. This is why everything Fool says about Spirit should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

Saying you 'will' return the taxes isn't the same as actually doing so. I traveled on Delta during the shutdown, still waiting for my refund. I was (emphasis on the past tense) a Platinum Medallion, SkyClub member, and had the credit card too at the time. My reward for loyalty? Bupkis!

They didn't have the seniority to hold what someone senior to them wanted. Would you really want 5-10 years of service to Spirit abrogated because of an honest mistake while bidding?

We've been doing this vacancy bid through FLICA long enough that not knowing how to bid is no longer an excuse that holds any water. If they wanted it, they should have entered their bid correctly and in a timely manner. Isn't that the purpose of publishing the snapshot and the multiple bidding tutorials that have been around for the past couple of years? If I forget to put in my monthly bid, should they take someone else's awarded line away from them and to give it to me?

It has nothing to do with bidding incorrectly. With the reduction bid, some pilots had bid for a voluntary displacement out of DTW so they would be eligible for the CBA displacement benefits. The company rescinded the reduction AFTER the bid closed, which left no opportunity for those pilots that still wanted to leave DTW to change their bid accordingly.

That makes a lot more sense, thanks for clearing it up. I guess crew planning could have done a much better job of explaining the reasons behind re-opening the bid as well.

Actually, I'm still confused. If the reduction was cancelled, wouldn't the only tab that gets looked at be the vacancy tab? It wouldn't matter what someone had under the voluntary tab.
