I’m assuming this is your first 121 job so I’ll take the time to explain.

Hotels are divided into this criteria:

Long stay - 18hr+ layover. These hotels are located downtown or in an equivalent busy area. Hotel chains like Westin, Marriot, Hilton, Embassy Suits, Springhill Suits, Sonesta, etc. Some are really nice, some aren’t that great. Everybody has a different opinion and a different complaint. I truly enjoy most of our long layovers. Plenty to do if you’re not too lazy. Also, transportation is contracted separately and most of the time they’re ready waiting for you.

Short stay - <18hr layover. These are airport hotels. My pet peeve are the shuttles. Nothing like flying a red eye and having to freeze your ass for 30’ waiting for the shuttle. Otherwise the hotels are pretty decent with few exceptions. They’re Marriotts, Hilton Garden Inn, Double Tree, etc.

As far as your second question, while on reserve don’t bank on braking guarantee. You could put yourself on the X/Y lists on days off but it’s more luck than anything else. Again don’t budget on it.

Once you’re a line holder, you can virtually fly as much as you want (FAR117) or as little as you want. Plenty of flexibility, more than almost anywhere else in this industry.

Ok, now that was useful information, exactly what I was looking for. Glad there are a couple adults here.

One thing that is different. There is no need to fill out any travel claims to get your travel reimbursement/mileage/per diem like you have to. No GOV/POV bs. You don’t get to pick your hotel anymore like you used to

Per diem is at the union negotiated rate not the federal GSA rate that you’re used to.

Congress took away our ability to file to get reimbursement between the federal GSA rate and the airline rate a few years ago.

If the hotel shuttle doesn’t arrive within 15 minutes you can take a taxi and submit an expense report for reimbursement. (May or may not be approved - I’m 100% approval on taxi reimbursements so far). If the hotel doesn’t provide the negotiated grab and go. You can also submit for reimbursement from the company.

Crew scheduling is your single point of contact for hotel/travel arrangements. (Good and bad) No more going to the TMO/transportation office to obtain travel arrangements anymore.

It's 30 minutes from block in, not 15. And if it isn't approved you grieve it because that's a blatant violation of our contract.
