Think about it from Spirit's prospective: if they are the only Major at a job fair and a qualified candidate makes the effort to travel to that job fair it shows Spirit that you are there for them. At WIA, FAPA, ect. there could be quite a few candidates who just stop by to take a chance but might not be all that interested. The way they do it ensures that the pile of resumes they leave with are from sincere applicants which makes these events the most efficient for them. Southwest wants a 737 type rating, Spirit likes you to visit them at the job fair. If you really want the job it's worth the trip.

As bad as I want the job, I am a father first, pilot second. If I have to wait a few more months until the next job fair, so be it. I won't give up. Persistence beats resistance.

Do what you need to do man. you will get hired it you are persistent. The birthday will be more fun. You could call my reply the Devil's Advocate... We all know the airlines want to think that you will always put them first, no matter what.

Nerdy pilots aren't the only ones on these boards- and some of them are pretty smart. Just sayin'.

So I went to two major job fairs this year, WIA and OBAP. Spirit was at neither of them, yet everyone else was. What does this say about that company?
As far as I can tell they only go to Aero Crew Solutions job fairs. You can only get hired if you go to said job fair or strong internal rec/nepotism.
So, is this a scam? Do they have a deal/kickbacks with Aero Crew Solutions and they can't go to any other fair? I have a hard time believing that a company would purposely blow off two of the bigger fairs, especially since OBAP this year was in Miami not far from Spirit's HQ.
Just an observation.

It is Spirit's choice on which events they attend. This month they attended Embry-Riddle's career fair in Daytona Beach on October 9th. One of my clients spent 30 minutes with the HR Manager. Attending a WAI or OBAP event costs thousands of dollars because the event lasts a minimum of 4 days. Spirit may prefer our job fairs because the majority of times they are the only major airline attending. The recruiters have stated to me they appreciate the pilots who attend. They understand that it costs time, money and effort to attend a job fair.
Spirit uses the job fair as recruiting event plain and simple. There are no back room deals. If you have any questions please send me a PM so we can talk about any issues you may have about my company. I truly wish you the best in your career.

I don't post often and my career thus far has been spent solely on the 135 side of the industry. I will say that I have considered a switch to the 121 side, and the only airline I'm considering is Spirit (as I have two good friends that fly for them and they are actively growing their DFW base which is where I live).
That being said, I spoke with my friends about the Aero Crew Solutions job fairs and they both independently told me that not only was it well worth the time but it was very well done. If you read the terms on their website, you'll see there is a very generous policy regarding circumstances where your registration fee may be refunded (you can also transfer your ticket to a friend). I think they are more than fair.
The owner makes regular posts in this forum...I don't spend much time here and I've seen several posts by him/her. I believe the owner has a genuine interest in his clients.
Finally, the cost is quite reasonable. Think back on your career. $100 is likely less than what you spent on only 1 hour of flight time early on in a 172. The opportunity to meet face to face with recruiters is far more valuable than an hour of 172 time!
Bottom line, if you think its a bad deal or a scam...simply don't go! Those who are serious about Spirit (or other airlines that may be attending) will likely go, and those are the ones that will stand out in an endless stack of resumes.

Aero Crew Solutions is run by a good man and professional pilot. I imagine if you are just leaving active duty military, things may seem a little "foreign." Why don't you drop AeroCrewSolut a message, I'm sure he will help you out.

With what you wrote, it doesn't sound like you are a father. Telling someone to skip their girl's first birthday to attend a job fair is the dumbest advice in this thread.
