The rumor mill, doing what rumor mills do, has a few ideas. 5 more sunny planes, 3 incoming Amazon birds, 767's, who knows.

as of today
387 pilots
43 airplanes
1) -700 pax
30) -800 pax
12) -800 cargo

industry usually has a 10 or 11 to 1 ratio of pilots to airplanes so based on that we need 430-473, we are currently short 43-86, hence the rumor mill saying 50 new hires.

I know a guy who interviewed and got the thanks but no thanks email. Bachelors degree, 15 years at regional. Check airmen. Checked all the boxes but didn’t get the nod. Who knows! From the water cooler talk it sounds like a lot of the pilots have been taken out of the hiring equation. Lucky for him Fed ex gave him the nod. Worked out in the end.

Doesn’t management know that they’re still the second lowest paid 737 operators?
