Industry Consolidation & Mergers
In addition to the 4 largest U.S. airlines (American, Delta, United, & Southwest), we have 10 other carriers fighting primarily for domestic market share: Alaska, Hawaiian, JetBlue, Spirit, Frontier, Allegiant, Sun Country -- and recently Breeze, Avelo, Airbahn. The legacies are going to have to fight to defend territory while dealing with the continued impact on business and international travel due to COVID. The low cost model, while resilient in many ways, is not without its weaknesses. Issues with inflation, labor, oil cost, and so on spell turbulent times ahead.
All that said, what do Sun Country pilots believe is going to happen to Sun Country in the coming years -- and why? |
I'm going with continued growth on current trajectory. I do believe there will likely be a merger someday, but today is not that day. With whom? Hard to tell. The next time things get shaken up in the industry, whether that be 2 years or a decade from now, a merger seems likely. But for now, the only reality is continued growth in the defined niches.

SunCountry will receive a 7 year deal for 10 A330s and 8 additional 738s extending the current Amazon contract to run concurrently with the current deal. And also become the exclusive Kpop carrier on behalf of BTS with its first pax A330.

To answer your question, no one will wanna merge with us after we sign on to fly boy bands and indrogenous Korean dance teams. We'll just be good 'ol Sun Country in perpetuity. |

Is there a deadline for Amazon to announce who's getting those planes? Or its just a rumor at this point.

Possibly on a Friday… |
Well, best of luck. I do have a couple of friends flying for SC and they have good things to say. I hope we get a few of those 330 at Atlas, I've always loved that plane
