Am I Competitive Enough?

21 years old. Been flying the beechjet for the last year and a half at a 135 operator. Total time is 1750 with 600 of that being in the jet. I have atp/ctp complete as well as the written complete too. 2 failed checkrides (private and the beechjet initial). I’ve had my application in for a month and haven’t heard back. Is there anything I can do to help my chances of getting an interview?

With the jet failure. I’d say probably go to a regional and make it through a 121 training program. They get scared of failures and low time. They don’t want to pay you to not pass training.

Know anyone at the company? An internal rec goes a long way.

You need more time, in every sense.
More time between you and the failure and more total time and more jet time.
Walk before you can run grasshopper.
Your initial introduction into a jet didn’t go without a hitch, there’s a reason why that happened.
You’re also very young. Now age doesn’t guarantee maturity but being that young won’t help.
Sit back, relax and enjoy your job.
You probably have no idea how lucky you already are flying a jet at that age with that little total time.

Keep applying. Sunny is sometimes inconsistent with who they call for interviews. An internal Rec would greatly increase your chance of getting called. You’re on the right path, move past the failure, and keep doing what you’re doing.

Recommend you do a stop and go at a regional to learn 121 ops. You’re competing against regional pilots for a spot here. Perhaps it’s more competitive than you realize. Good luck.

To get into 121 you will most likely need to go to Regional. You need to get a couple of check rides sometime between the Beech-jet failure. If you can go to one that has a base close to home that's a plus for quality of life, and a flow to legacy,

By all means don’t listen to sound advice.

Why the rush? Build time and be ready to apply to the majors, ATP in hand, when you turn 23
