Penalty Box?
 

Looking at an old airport diagram in MIA, there is a "penalty box" located in the middle.

Just curious what was the purpose for that.

A place where an aircraft can go sit due to ATC/WX delays when their gate is needed. Keeps them out of the way.

Also for when there is an illegal check or high sticking, it can get brutal out there on the ramps/taxiways! :D

if you ask for a 'progressive' when they are busy or fly for air china(jfk ground controller incident). They'll send you there until they get the time to help you.
