757 Winglets

I was bored and listening to Kennedy Tower today and tower and an American 767 had a little conversation about slowing down. The AA pilot said the 75s with winglets take longer to slow down than the ones without. How much would winglets really affect the performance of the 757?

Winglets make the wing more efficient. They add about 4.5% fuel savings/range if you fly at optimum altitude and at long range cruise speed.

I've flown the 757 with and without winglets and I can't tell the difference when it comes to slowing down. I don't know what the difference is as I cannot measure it or feel it. Maybe the engineers have that data?
