Duchess min. oil
It's not specified in the POH, talked to a few people and nobody knows the answer for sure. Maintenance said if it's run below 1qt it has to be overhauled but other than that, does anybody have a clue as to the min oil requirement for a O360-A1G6D

I can't say I'm 100% on this but I remember 6 quarts be the min. I have been told by mx's and owners that the plane with blow out a quart or so eventually. Meaning that the plane is oil capacity is stable around 5 but can get to 4 and will be fine.
page 3 has some oil info. http://saintlouispilotservices.com/y....246151541.pdf |
4-6 quarts on the IO360s..Its the same as a cessna 172 or at least some of the 72's

You guys arent even close. 5-6 is standard oil, 1-2 is minimum. If its not in the POH try calling a dealer or manufacturer for the min oil my GUESS is around 1-2.

Im sticking with min of 6 to takeoff and go flying in a preflight. |
just talked to a owner and he's also a mx guy. under part 23(if not there then in poh) he said the plane normal capacity is up to 8 and can be flown to a fifth of that so 4. the engine doesn't need to be overhauled unless there is damage to the rings and such. for the original OP, one quart is not a great situation to be in but as long as no over temp and other engine damage limits have not been exceeded, there is no reason to overhaul. a story i just heard was after doing mx to a eng., the oil wasn't replaced and the mx people started the engine and the engine came to a noisey stop. It ran fine until a minute or so, the engine parts probably started to fuse together which caused the stop.

what type of situation are you in with 1 quart.......in flight or on the ground. a few be-76 owners/mx said that 1 quart as long as the engine parameters haven't been exceeded, you wouldn't need an engine overhaul. min oil will be 4-5 with a normal of 6-8. your welcome, i will be here all night lol. |
