I never realized those leading edges were near vertical like that. Definitely love the old iron.

Default Sad End For a Beauty

The 720B has always been a favorite for me. My Dad worked for Western Air Lines, and when I was a kid, they were the queens of their fleet. Had 30 or 32 of them, and I rode in them a fair bit on family trips. Only 169 were built, and few people knew the difference from a 707.

I say "Sad end" because, if you search, you can find video of Honeywell scrapping their two (I think) 720s on the ramp, in Phoenix, using a bulldozer. Think it happened last year. Honeywell's airplanes were pristine. Surely they deserved better than that.

They're using a 757 as their testbed now. It may be efficient, but there's no character, ambience, or history.

Here's the video and what a waste of a perfectly good a/c.

The Kruegers on all the older Boeings (at least 707-747) come down just a bit past vertical.

If you want a prime example of how durable the whale is check out the last part of this video.
If we could only turn the hands of time back .
