We even have to run the FJ44s at idle ( I think it technically says "minimum idle temperature" or something like that ) for 2 minutes after landing before shut down. I could definitely see it on a big ole engine like on a dash. A little guy like a King Air, nah.

Re: Saving Money-
Depending on how you're paying for your engines, burning the extra gas may be better. We're on an engine program, so it isn't as big of a deal. If we had to worry about coughing up $300,000 for something moderately major...the extra fuel burn would probably more than offset the risk. I'm sure the bean counters at the airlines have figured all of that out. I'm just a simple son of a gun.

Our BE99 shutdown is done after letting the "N1 Stabilize for at least a min before cutting the fuel" Beta is fine (since N1 doesn't change) but if we give it power or use reverse then we need to wait another min before killing the fuel. PT6's on the BE99 as well!

However, I'm not following CRJ700's reasoning with ITT- unless your engines are cooled differently. For us, the engine depends on airflow going through the oil cooler to keep the oil temp down (not ITT), but it will heat up just as fast in feather as it would in beta, as both modes have little to no rearward airflow. We're supposed to use beta to come to a stop, then once stopped, come out of beta to allow some rearward airflow to keep the oil temps down.

How would feather keep the ITT down better than the combination of Alpha and Beta used for taxi?

When taxiing in feather I'm not trying to keep the oil temps down but rather not exceeding ITT limits if the power lever is inadvertantly moved with the HP bleeds on.

Interesting, thanks for the insight guys. We are running one of the most powerful PT-6's, but there's no cool down required for us, so I didn't even consider that.

Why taxi with one feathered? Because it's hard to taxi with BOTH feathered!!!

Yuk yuk yuk!!!
