Default Max Demonstrated X-Wind

I fly for a 121 airline and we have max demonstrated x-wind component for the aircraft. However, we don't have a policy regarding whether or not we can exceed the component. I would like to know what the rest of you guys can tell me about the way things are done at your airline when it comes to exceeding the max demonstrated x-wind component.

We have hard limits in our FOM, headwinds, tailwinds and crosswinds. Gusts are to be strongly considered but not limiting.

It's a hard limit in our Aircraft Operating Manual.

Hard limit in our manual for x-wind and tailwind. Gusts are not hard limited and are discussed on a case by case basis.

Hard limits in FOM for xwinds on different surfaces (dry, wet, etc). Also hard limit for t-wind.

Thanks for the responses. We have hard tailwind limits. But not really any guidance on x-winds. Appreciate the info.

The max demonstrated crosswind may not be 'limiting' but I bet I know what will happen if you exceed it and strike a pod or worse. CYA

speaking of which, they have a nice iPhone app that figures out crosswind/tailwind/headwind components including the gusts and it's free.

I love the FAA's " One level of Safety" We have a 30 knot x-wind limitation including gusts. Even if it is 90 degree wind at 15 gusting 31 you can't go until the gust is reduced or gone. But some other airline flying the same airplane could go because their idiot POI signed off on it.

Rule #1: Don't do ANYTHING, EVER, in an airplane that you can't honestly and thoroughly explain at an FAA inquiry.

Rule #1 is known the Mahogany Table Rule.
