For those using Jepp FD Pro with their iPads, what type of GPS attachment have you been using? Do these require that you download a separate app or can you use the GPS unit as a plug in and go from there? I had my first trip at UPS using my iPad with Jepp FD Pro and really liked it. Started me thinking about finally getting my own iPad for general aviation flying.

If your I pad is cellular capable, than a GPS is built in to the I Pad. Not the case with the WiFi only pads. The Jepp FD pro software allows use of GPS functions of the I pad (when able) and can be toggled on and off. From my experience, the GPS within the I pad will not work (receive a usable signal) within transport airplanes, but will do so in GA types. An external antenna may not be necessary but you won't know until to fly in your particular aircraft.

Why wouldn't it work in transport category aircraft? From this past GMM in ANC, it was stated that the company was working with the FAA to get permission to use the moving map function on the issued iPads. It sounded like all that was needed was a plug-in external GPS receiver to enable the own ship function. Maybe I misunderstood what was being said???

Ipad1 with the built in GPS and Foreflight has been working fine for me since new. I've been meaning to upgrade to a 3 though so I can take advantage of some of the better features

I use WingX and like it a lot. I haven't use anything else, but a guy I fly with had Foreflight. He liked my Wingx so much better that he went and got it even thought his Foreflight was months from expiring.

For Android, and my Nexus 7, I've started using Naviator.

I also use fltplan

So far I'm really happy with both. For $80 a year naviator gives you live approach like foreflight does.

Is the geo charts in the 149 dollar version of foreflight worth it if I already have almost the same with the new flt plan go app? I still want foreflight since the interface is better, but don't want to pay more than 79

FF was worth it to me. i upgraded to the foreflight geo charts subscription. Once you fly with it you won't go back to the static version. You actually see the moving aircraft symbol moving in a realtime overlay on top of the approach plates, maps, and taxi diagrams. gives you real time SA, especially on IMC days. The only drawback is that it only available for IPads.

I used the FltPlan app to file. JeppFD for charts. ForeFlight for enroute.

Depends what your main focus is. FltPlan app is a must, but do you like Jepp charts or NOS charts? If NOS then ForeFlight is the choice.

Jepp is expensive, but I think the charts are much easier to use and the JeppFD app has come a long way with trying to be as user friend for the enroute portion.
