ORD or DEN
 

Greetings All,

How long would it be to get based in DEN or ORD after initial training? What do reserve times look like for those bases?

As an FO expect to be DC based for probably up to 6 months. Some people make it out sooner than that. We have some relatively big classes coming through for us so some people will get out of there quickly that just hit the line. I've seen some people be ORD based in as little as 3 months. Denver is slightly more senior on the FO side and would take at least 5 or so months to hold. 6 to be safe.

Relatively big? You mean the classes of 6-10 people? Of which half end up quitting or washing out? While at the same time we have 20+ resignations a month?

Do that many people wash out?

Recently, yes. We are scraping the bottom of the barrel from a recruiting perspective but the standards to pass haven’t changed. They give people extra sims and do what they can but a lot aren’t making it because they’re not cut out for an airline job.

Just on basic instrument skills or what? That's really disappointing to get that far and wash out, even after extra sim sessions...

Yeah well that tends to happen when you offer class dates to private helicopter pilots and guys with 1500hrs hot air balloon time and dont figure it out until they cant even get off the ground in the sim.....

Sounds like it's time to include a frasca eval in the interview

Study, get prepared, and take it seriously and you will be fine. When I went to AQP a while back the APD was doing a recheck on some guy that had failed his initial ride. Dude shows up and didn't even have his paperwork filled out. Needless to say the APD and Check Airman that was his seat fill were pretty ****ed. Not a good way to start a checkride when you already failed once. So just because someone else fails doesn't mean its unbearably hard. It usually means they weren't prepared so take it FWIW.

From what I’ve gathered from the instructors and check airmen a lot of the rotor to wings guys are struggling to get through. They’re coming in with the bare minimum fixed wing time and aren’t prepared to fly a jet
