Colgan or Trans States
Thanks guys for the response to my "Big Sky or Colgan" thread a little while back. I chose Colgan. While it's far from my dream company (I don't even know if I have a dream company within the regionals), I thought maybe it will work out after all and I could actually stay in this company till I upgrade instead of the lateral moves that I would have inevitably made had I gone with Piedmont or Comair which were initially my top choices. (And if you're wondering why I would've had to make lateral moves, it's cuz upgrade at both companies are super long.)
Now I have another choice, Trans States. Again, this is kind of a toughie cuz neither is hugely better than the other. If I went with Colgan I would probably stay long enough to upgrade. Of course I might end up hating the company but if the upgrade is 1.5-2 years, then I would really try to stay instead of making a lateral move and prolonging the process of getting that turbine PIC. If I went with Trans States I would probably stay just a few months (if that) and then go grab that sign-on bonus at RAH afterwards.
I've read many threads here on Trans States but never in relation to Colgan. what do yall think.

I was offered an interview at Colgan and didnt except it. They seem decent esp. if you live n base as you are home every night, upgrade is less than 2 years and they have the Q400s on the way. I dont really know too much about TSA except that their training is tough, they are all jets, i believe. Pay isnt that bad but thats all i really know. I applied to the m a few weeks ago and havent heard back yet. Good luck. ARe you employed 121 right now?

cruiseclimb - yeah, I do agree that it feels.. wrong. But then again, if companies wanted to retain employees, then maybe they should proactively try to improve the conditions at their company so employees would WANT to stay forever and ever. is RAH's mins still 1000/100? if so, I'm still 300 short on TT and 50 short on ME. It's not so hard to get another part 91 job to increase my TT, but the only way to get more ME time is to buy it.. I just can't justify buying 50 ME in this job market right now. (and I don't have the $ even if I wanted to buy the time!)
mregan - no, not currently employed at 121, but the class for colgan starts soon.
vtcharter - good point... who knows if RAH (or any of the other upper tier regionals) will be hiring 5 months from now. who knows....

I personally hope you go to Trans States, get the training, and bail ASAP because I was there and got screwed repeatedly and I wish bad things for Hulas. I get a smile whenever I hear about someone escaping to something better- especially Captains I know who took the crap long enough and really new guys who cost the scum sucker a big load of training cash and get almost nothing in return. I can't stress enough how much of a scumbag Hulas is and that you WILL be screwed by the guy if you stay any appreciable amount of time. The crews themselves are a great bunch to fly with, but management is especially evil there. Good luck in this gamble of a career that most of us just can't quit.

jtf560 - uhm, could you elaborate on how you got screwed? are you at a better place now? do you think Trans States was a big waste of time and energy or did it help in getting you a better 121 job afterwards? would it be a huge risk to go there given their washout reputation?

3 regionals in less than a year (not sure how long you've been at Colgan) would not look good in ANY interview (including RAH/CHQ). Think about what the guys down the road (majors/lcc's) would think about having that on your resume. Stick it out, stay the course, get it done, and get the heck out.
Good luck.
Good luck.
