There have been many pilots in current classes and the previous classes with wet commercials. Many of whom have about 3-500 hrs and came from flight saftey and capt programs.

Something's got to give here...either A) the incredibly low hiring standards the company has now reduced itself to or B) the apparent intensity of the training program coupled with these high washout rates. It's no wonder TSA is desperate for FOs right now!

the training program at TSA isnt very easy, but what it definately isn't is forgiving. You get your shot, you make it or go home, simply goes to show how much they really care about their employees, i understand it if a person simply isn't ready, but, if the trainers were putting solid effort into getting people through, then there wouldn't be half the people going into it, not making it.

Yeah I was just going to say that. Its not hard because its tough training. Its hard because they do a crappy job.

Could it be said that if training taught poorly, then that would make training tough.
If you are not provided with the correct tools for the job, then how can you be expected to do a good job.

I am not sure I can see how if new hires do not get the knowledge that they need to do well not to think the training is not tough

This was my first 121 job, and I had no idea if I had all the knowledge that I needed.
So I considered it tough at times

Does that make any sense

You can't possibly say that Jerry didn't go out of his way to make sure we all got through.

Its the company culture that is rotten to the core. They do just enough to be legal and barely get by. The rest is up to us. If I bought the airline, everyone in any form of management would be replaced. Flight managers, in flight, ramp, scheduling, maintenance, dispatch, etc.

There is always an exception to the rule. That guy is way better than the place he works for. I always love how he starts off with Terry Tate too

Jerry is awesome man, you know that. Think there were some problems with both the classes and with flight safety instructors.

Popa, when we went through do you happen to remember what flight safety's CPT's would look like any nite of the week? packed, everyone doing flows and profiles, and those who couldn't get the cpt were watchin. I had a friend going through training in december, and i'd go to flight safety with him on occasion, every CPT was open, not a soul sitting anywhere, it kinda shocked me. So, i think part of the problem from sept. to dec. is that there isn't as much time spent prepping it seems.

My main company beef w/ trainign was that the flight safety instructors can be hit or miss (you get a good one, or he sux) and the company isn't to quick on making changes on that front, which leads to plenty of competent pilots getting the big red X on their first airline experience.

regarding the washout rate, maybe it is because they are taking "anyone with a commercial multi".....

if you lower your mins to 5TT and a ride in a multi-engine airplane, i bet you will see the washout rate climb even higher.....

give me a break!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't doubt that may be a factor, but there is definately something that needs fixing within the department. When a checkride includes scenarios you've never seen before in the sim... there's something wrong.
