ALPA pushing 2 pilot messaging
ALPA just released a couple of videos pushing a campaign to maintain 2 pilots. The messaging is great but are they really scared that single pilot ops are going to become a thing any time soon?

Better to be early to the dance than too late.
Airbus, Dassault and some EU operators having been pushing for it. EASA had ruled against the initial time frame earlier this year. Does not mean the fight is over. |

Do you guys really think this is of any concern in light of the absolute chaos from Crowdstrick that brought several airlines to their knees??

This is not an "Airbus thing."
Boeing removed the cockpit crew member called the Flight Engineer when it built the 737, in 1967. McDonnell Douglas did it with the MD-11 "but technically that is not a Pilot" well, history lesson: the FE Written was required to be interviewed back then at all the big airlines, and it was the first job out of new-hire training at 99% of the companies. but..Airbus sucks yadayada |

I think they are more concerned with extended two pilot ops, where one pilot is left alone on the flight deck while the other one rests during long haul ops which currently require crew augmentation.
True single pilot ops, with today's airplanes, is a complete non-starter due to loss of PM and the fact that if the solo pilot becomes incapacitated the plane will most likely crash, unless the FAs realize what happened quickly enough, access the flight deck, and find an off duty airline pilot in the cabin. |
You guys are all missing something HUGE that works in our favor against single pilot ops.
INSURANCE! Ever see the premium increase when going for a SP type on a CJ3 or similar vs one that requires an SIC? On an airframe with a hull (and liability) value more than 10X (hell....prob close to 50X) more than a small biz jet, the incremental increase in insurance premiums with be much much more than a FO's salary. Can't belive all you guys are not even mentioning that. |

Not going to happen!! Nice try trolling Looks like FedEx is closer than others in the US to making it a reality... ALPA goes over the situation around 19:40. This recent round of contract negotiations mant pax carriers put a 2 pilot in the cockpit requirement in their contracts.
