ALPA, what are you doing about this?

What is ALPA doing about this? Is Prater really taking is back? Every night I try to go to sleep while thinking about paying the bills on $20,000 a year to fly a jet. Why is it so hard for the regionals to actually settle on a contract that pays pilots more than $250 a week after taxes and benefits during their first year as a reserve RJ first officer. Is ALPA national really helping the regionals that are in negotiations? Something really has to be done about the underbidding RJ game. It's has gotten out of control.

I am not looking to start a whiny thread, I want ALPA national in DC to perhaps try to understand what its like to be paid what a RJ FO makes... or even what a super stretched 80,000 lb RJ FO makes.

Guys, it's the same airplane for 1/2 the wages:

The types of responsibility differ (CRJ900 FO vs C-130 Copilot) but level of responsibility in human lives are similar. A new military pilot makes almost $40,000 a year (includes housing, subsistance and flight pay) whereas many new regional FOs live below the poverty line.

I am a retired military pilot whose regional FO son lived below that line for six years. Profesional pilots should not have to work second jobs to make ends meet. Never saw a new military Copilot who HAD to work a second job.

IMHO the regionals should have a starting pay of about $35 -$40. per flight hour.

I say someone needs to strike and get the ball rolling for getting our cut of our CEO's $7,000,000

Excellent comparison picture, I would like to see what ALPA has to say about this as well. This is getting ridiculous.

That picture makes me sick. Part of me hopes the CEO at NW chokes on his over priced filet mignon tonight... paid for by staffing mainline jets with regional wages.

The sad thing is I don't see a change in the future anytime soon. Well at least the RJ pilots can say the -900 looks a lot better than that old junker of a DC-9, at least they got that going for them.....But just wait until the CRJ 1000 comes out, then you'll really have a reason to be upset....

Yup that's pretty ridiculous. Looks too long for it's girth. Seems like if you pulled any G's the thing would want to buckle.

sad compare NWA DC-9 vs. Mesaba crj 900 pay scale!.... What good is ALPA or Union? Pilots pay Union fees for what? Companies can cut jobs anytime, make you pay for training as they wish, create another certificates whenever, break current contracts, take your pay, buy new fleet with your money, and well!!!!!!.

Easier said than done. Many of us would walk tomorrow, however the RLA, NMB (and one particular group of three letter initals that comes to mind) stand in our way...

Most National Officers have a Dry Cleaning budget in excess of the average RJ F/O's 1st year salary. I don't think you'll have much success getting them to really empathize and understand what it's like.

These rates are few years old, despite the Chapter 11's and pay cuts in the industry, they don't seem to affect ALPA national officers.
