So far, all you've been able to come up with is a (very unoriginal, by the way) cheap insult about his name, and a criticism of mustaches.

I'll rephrase:

Have you looked in a mirror lately?

Tony (et al),

Anybody that's met me knows that when I did work for an ALPA carrier, I served proudly and extensively as a volunteer. Although I never held an elected office (I chose not to since I thought my reps did a good job), I have held various committee positions, including as the chair. I often worked from home and the road, and did my best not to utilize flight loss pay benefits that ALPA offered.

My issue is that for all the babble, the national leadership has managed to turn a viable, organized, strong union into one of many divided "factions". We are no longer a "brotherhood of pilots." Instead we are divisions of companies, each waging war against each other in a continuous battle for job security.

In his time as ALPA president, Woerth has signed more CBAs that reduce scope restrictions, lower pilot pay and work rules, and generally LOWER the bar for pilots.

ALPA has done little to educate the public about pilot issues and pay structure, and the average person doesn't even realize that pilot salaries are at the lowest ever, let alone that half of the airline pilots in this country work at well below what is considered "professional" salaries. Hell, a good number of regional first officers QUALIFY FOR GOVERNMENT LIVING ASSISTANCE of some sort or another (food stamps, living subsidies, low income housing, etc).

I don't question the salaries of the various legal assistance that ALPA employs. We all know that lawyers cost money (could it be perhaps that lawyers have a tendancy not to undercut each other, but instead DEMAND their respectable salaries?)

Most local MECs do a fine job of supporting their pilots. It's just a lack of coherency between the MECs, and the "ME, ME, ME" mentality that has driven the national union the the point of uselessness.

Aside from safety aspects, ALPA has seriously failed its membership in protecting jobs, salary, and public opinion/respect of pilots.

I guess it's how we see things. What would you have Worth sign other than what a respective MEC has negotiated and feel is the best they can get. The viable strong part harks back to the 60's and 70's when our profession was on the upswing, prior to Lorenzo. ALPA backed the Comair guys once they decided to walk even though they didn't think it was a good idea. The strong viable part has to come from us and with all the "I've got mine" types I've seen in my career I'm not holding my breath. Although the Northwest and Delta guys made me stand proud when they threatened their strikes to the bankruptcy judges.

The survival mentality IMHO is a direct result of each companies circumstances. It's a lot easier to stand together as a profession when a bunch in the profession are not afraid for their pensions or bankruptcy. A national strike? Yeah right, with this administration.

I'm not saying I wouldn't like a more ballsy stand and attitude, but at the end of the day the guy charging up the hill needs to turn around and see everybody standing there with him.

The sad reality of it is that if you live in Herndon, VA, you NEED to make 6 figures to live in a basic home. Ridiculous, isn't it?

I cant believe you said that. That is a moronic statement. One can get twice the quality for a half price. ALPA the last twenty years is probably the worst union leadership in the world.

How's that TSA screening treating you everyday, four times a day?

Real simple, move away from Herndon, VA.

Why did Honda, Toyota & Nissan move factories to the USA? It was too expensive to make the cars in Japan. If your product becomes too expensive to make in Herndon.....move south of Herndon. Lots of nice areas in Virginia that are very affordable.

Has there ever been an ALPA executive without a 'stache? Is it a pre-requisite for office? Do the other unions have somekind of facial hair requirement such as soul patch for SWAPA, Van Dyke for IPA, etc?
