ALPA doesn't believe in seniority any more
I'm a bit shocked that ALPA is allowing North American to furlough out of seniority. Even better, they are allowing pilots with no insurance to fly to Afghanistan.
I understand trying to save your job, but when do you say enough. Other airlines like Southern tried this and their pilot's stood strong. I'm just trying to figure out why a union airline would agree to fly out of seniority. I thought seniority was a keystone of what made a union airline.

As I don't work for North American, I don't have a copy. Here's a thread going on the shutdown:

As for your comment that ALPA national doesn't control this, if that is the case, I'd be surprised. I can't believe that ALPA national is sitting on it's hands on the sidelines and just watching.

There are qualified pilots that have been furloughed, per our union Lee Moak and Bruce York agreed to preserve their rights but look the other way for 30 days while the Airline is shopped around. They will file a useless grievance when they are done selling dues paying members down the road.
Life insurance, Health insurance gone! Seniority Gone! But still flying into Afghanistan. Pretty close to scabs flying NAA metal this week. Don't believe it call your MEC chair!
ALPA could care less about small carriers and that includes regionals.

I guess you don't understand the connection between a security clearance and the IAD base. Think about it. If you don't have the security clearance YOU ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO DO THE FLYING. Think of it as a type rating. If you aren't typed in an A320 YOU CAN'T FLY AN A320.
Period, end of story. If memory serves me right, EVERYONE at NAA had the option to bid the IAD base when it opened. You, apparently, did not.
Looks like you made a mistake, ACE.

"Unless the company is going out of business because of lousy management and wants to make a few extra bucks for the management, in which case...up yours."
A union that does not represent ALL it's members equally isn't a union.

Hopefully we will see yet another DFR for ALPA.
