Simple question. How many JS on a 73-8?

Bought tickets for the fam on vaca going ewr-den, but left myself out assuming JS. Now flight is oversold. I can make it earlier if need be and no one listed yet JS but one '89 SA1P (can I tell if they are a pilot?)
Anyways does the 73 have 1 or 2 jumpseats?

1 cockpit on most.
The newer 800s have 2.
What's the n-number?

That sa1p won't be occupying the jumpseat btw.

UAL 1262 on Sat the 18th out of EWR. Is there a way to look up the nose number?

Sunvox 02-16-2017 12:20 PM

Based on the seating chart and United Mainlines Fleet website it's a 2011 delivery with 16 and 138 total.

Tail 519. I'm pretty sure that's not a 2 seater.

Correct. Old LCAL bird, one JS

jdt30 02-16-2017 12:46 PM

3/4 really

frosty328 02-16-2017 02:05 PM

All the 800's are LCAL.. a/c 528-538 should have two cockpit jumpseats. You can tell the a/c number on the United app.

Have you actually ever SAT in that second JS? I did it once on a 1.5 hr flight and I felt like I was going to die. And I'm a small person (the guy in the main JS wasn't).

The Captain that gives away the 2nd jumpseat is a true giver. I've sat in that 2nd jumpseat and the Captain looked as uncomfortable as I did. I couldn't thank him enough.

If you take that 2nd jumpseat, you're doing it wrong. There's barely room for two mouth breathers up there, let alone 4. No way I'd make the captain shove their seat up. Even on SWA....

I breath through my nose, but I definitely don't want to sit in the dunce seat again.

The other SA1P could be a pilot, never know.. look them up in flying together directory to see if it's a pilot.

We used to call that jumpseat "The Crippler."

I was JS'ing out of AUS to IAD on SWA and walked up to the cockpit and noticed the other JS'r waiting for the door to close. The Captain was very polite and said that he would be happy to cram forward to make sure I got on. I looked around, shook his and the FOs hand, and said thanks for the offer... but nobody should have to sit like that for 3.5 hours!

There is a name on the combined seniority list that corresponds to the SA1P hired on June 5, 1989, so looks like prob a pilot

I'm 6' 4" and sat in the main with another 6' guy in the 2nd J/S on WN for 1.5hr. It was painful for me so I can just imagine how it was for the other guy. At TOC I volunteered to go "stretch my legs" in the galley and we all mutually agreed that I'd return for the final approach. I was and will be eternally grateful for the ride but never again if I can help it.

I think he's speaking of the instructors at TK who are not pilots.

Can TI's use the jumpseat?

Training Instructor. They are pilots, that's how they are listed on the staffing. The non-pilot instructors are not on the staffing list.

Not 100% sure... but believe they can ride in the JS on the fleet they are FTIs.

They (FTI) need a letter from their supervisor in order to sit up front.
